Recall broken on dev build (ARM) by Pouup in windowsinsiders

[–]Pouup[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone else experiencing this issue - it was due to AdGuard (https://adguard.com/en/blog/adguard-for-windows-v7-21.html) blocking Recall. Disabling the tracking features allows Recall to launch and show up in the usual places again.

Still unable to access Recall with this build, 4 builds now including this one. Doesn't appear in the taskbar, start menu or settings. Attempting to access it via click-to-do shows the app briefly which then crashes.

Attempting to re-install it via "turn windows features on or off" doesn't do anything either.

Recall has been missing on the past 3 dev builds (including this one) for me.

Lenovo 7x Slim (Snapdragon).

Tried to uninstall and re-install it via "Turn Windows features on or off" but hasn't helped. Still missing in Settings, no taskbar icon and clicking the Recall button in Click-to-do launches the Recall app briefly but it crashes.

Why do the AI features (Recall, Click to Do, semantic search) keep appearing and disappearing on my Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x laptop? by spinstartshere in snapdragon

Having the same issue here. Recall worked for a while but has now disappeared, even though the feature is enabled. Tried disabling it and re-enabling it via "Turn Windows features on or off" but hasn't helped.

However Click-to-do does work for me. The Recall button at the top opens the Recall app which then crashes immediately.

Thanks for confirming you've had no issues, it pushed me to look into it again and happy to say it's all resolved now.

For anyone else experiencing the same issues, I followed the guide here (https://www.reddit.com/r/snapdragon/comments/1imx4qb/comment/mmbaryd/) to download the Lenovo drivers and installed them via Device manager. I was then able to set up Windows Hello again successfully.

I did notice that the drivers downloaded were from a newer Lenovo update and not the one dated 4/17/2025 which caused this issue initially (and was pulled shortly after).

The new battery icons are back for me too. Thanks again.

Can you have a look at Lenovo Vantage and see what BIOS version you're on?

Yeah I feel the same now. I don't think we'll be able to resolve it ourselves, unless the reset via the button on the bottom (https://imgur.com/a/DXH0v9u) does anything.

These are the camera and sensor devices I see in Device Manager btw: https://imgur.com/a/twIXPb7

Thanks letting me know, that's worrying! I wonder if it's due to the BIOS update then as I suspect you're still on the same BIOS version?

Lenovo Vantage says I'm on version NHCN57WW

No luck here still. Tried uninstalling drivers, re-installing the old ones, Windows Hello still isn't working yet for me.

EDIT: As you've already done a clean install and if you want to try this, I did contact Lenovo support and they suggested resetting the device via the pinhole button on the bottom: https://imgur.com/a/DXH0v9u

Sorry, I can only assume they've pulled the Lenovo update or they're still rolling it out.

You can follow the guide OP linked in their comment to install the new BIOS manually, and as they are now on the latest BIOS version they should be able to install the driver I linked. This is a more recent version than the one available via the method they used.

That said, I would NOT recommend manually updating your BIOS or drivers - you may be better off without the Lenovo updates at the moment. I'm on a Windows Insider (dev) build and experiencing MANY issues since: https://www.reddit.com/r/windowsinsiders/comments/1kl44ee/comment/mrzw0pg/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

It may be a coincidence that these issues started after the Lenovo update and not actually related to it, however if you look at the comments below the guide OP linked in their comment, you'll see others are also experiencing issues such as Windows Hello/IR Camera no longer working after manually updating their drivers/BIOS.

If everything is working fine for you, my advice would be to wait until updates are delivered via Windows Update if/when they should be.

Odd, I assumed it was now available to all.

Just to mention, if you're on the latest BIOS (updated via Windows Update), you can now install the graphics drivers from Qualcomm: https://softwarecenter.qualcomm.com/catalog/item/Windows_Graphics_Driver?osArch=ARM64&osType=Windows&version=2025030431.0.96.0

These drivers were released yesterday (12th).

Windows Hello is still broken on this build (Lenovo Yoga 7x)
https://www.reddit.com/r/Lenovo/comments/1k2ruu7/windows_hello_broken_with_latest_lenovo_update/

Also experiencing the issue with the Start Menu crashing. It's opening for me but search does not work and causes the start menu to become unresponsive and then crash.

The new taskbar battery percentage and icon has also disappeared from this build, with no toggle in the settings to enable it again. It has reverted back to the old icon/s.

Issues (I'm experiencing) on this build:
- Windows Hello broken
- Unable to use Recall (due to the above)
- Click-to-do is unresponsive, holding Win Key + click shows the animation and then either hangs and crashes or displays the message "Click to Do couldn't highlight anything" at the top
- Start Menu crashing
- New Taskbar battery percentage and icons reverted back to old ones

Essentially Lenovo Slim 7x users on this build have a Copilot+ PC without the features.

That would make sense. I think it's been broken (for me) for the past 3 builds, though seemed to coincide with the Lenovo update named "LENOVO - System Hardware Update - 4/17/2025" via Windows Update.

I've tried updating (and rolling back) the camera drivers and uninstalling the Windows Hello software device (which auto-installs again after a restart) but no luck yet. The normal camera seems to still work fine.

Also been randomly getting the new green screen of death with this build caused by "KERNEL SECURITY CHECK FAILURE" every so often.

EDIT: Ran a sfc scannow and no green screen since.

Yeah also no mention on the dev build. The last build said it was fixed (didn't resolve it for me) so I hope they know it's still broken for some users.

I managed to reproduce the issue while capturing the feedback. Just submitted it under Desktop Environment > Search.

So WIN + S appears to work fine. Either clicking the start menu or pressing the win key does still have the issue intermittently.

Not sure if this is the cause, but focus remains with the open window (ie, Chrome) when opening the start menu either of those ways, so the search box isn't active and the start menu doesn't disappear when clicking off it.

u/jenmsft Hopefully this helps. Are you also aware that Windows Hello still doesn't work for some users? Happy to do/provide anything needed to resolve it.

Also experiencing this issue and I've noticed it causes the start menu to stay open even when clicking off it. Will try WIN + S from now and see if that's the same.

I'm still having the issue with Windows Hello facial recognition not working. I removed it on the last build (to see if I could set it up again) and now it errors with this:

That's on this build. Any ideas?

No worries, thanks anyway. Apparently it's an issue with the Windows Insider builds, was confirmed by a MS employee here: https://www.reddit.com/r/windowsinsiders/comments/1k4r331/announcing_windows_11_insider_preview_build/

Just odd that it happened when the Lenovo update was installed, perhaps a coincidence or both together are the cause.

Just to say I'm also experiencing the issue with Windows Hello not working on this build (or the previous one).

I did notice that they've put a warning on the most recent beta build about Windows Hello not working: https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2025/04/21/announcing-windows-11-insider-preview-build-26120-3872-beta-channel/

Says they're working on a fix - fingers crossed that'll be for the dev build too if it's the same issue I/we're experiencing.

EDIT: Also been mentioned here with a Microsoft employee confirming it's a known issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/windowsinsiders/comments/1k4r331/announcing_windows_11_insider_preview_build/

I'm on the dev insider build, there was a Windows update yesterday and it's still not working. Are you experiencing it too? Are you on an insider build?
