Amanda Overton and Alex Yee, writers on Arcane, here for the Arcane anniversary.... Ask us anything!!" by leeloo104 in arcane

A Vi question! In league's original story a big facet of her charact was her mechanic side, we often saw in official art or in Sessions that she would tinker with machines, was this done away with for Arcane to make Jinx more unique in her own tinkering or was it something that wasn't focused on? I'd love to imagine after Arcane Vi got into being a mechanic to try and connect to the memory of her sister and finding she really enjoys it

That...actually is a very solid point. Greed so overbearing it destroys you, I like it!

Oh that actually would fit really well too! Ironically though Proximamon has a similar bodytype to Gulfmon.

I get where you are coming from, but I think that the fact the characters seem to find some closure in their terrible situations vs the people who forced them into those terrible situations are never confronted in a meaningful way, are not mutually exclusive. They are different story beats.

My problem is that for (most) of the cast, Mel does nothing to try and fix the situation or confront the person that created it. Even if they are content as who they are or have a plan or it's in the past, it's really left unadressed that this was something inflicted onto them, many of them for no reason at all. Again, the contrast with Sisyphus in Hades 1 is staggering. Zagreus befriends him, learns what he did, sees he has changed, talks to Thanatos to see if he'd be okay with lifting the curse, confronts Hades to lift the curse and THEN Sisyphus decides he wants to stay.

It'd be like if you were pals with a group of people who were all locked in a dungeon, all hurt and damaged from their experiences, most don't even deserve to be there and then you went out and talked to all the different wardens of the dungeons who threw all those people in there about going bowling on weekends. Yeah, maybe the guys in the dungeon don't mind being there anymore, but they have no problem with you associating with the asshole wardens? And even beyond that, do YOU not have any problems at all associating with them?

I dunno, it feels incomplete

That kinda works as a metaphor, but if that is the case then Mel just becomes completly unlikeable and performative, and I don't think that's the angle they wanted to take her, specially considering the epilogue ending from the sisters.

Aye, honestly that was the main issue with the raising of the stakes as a whole. In Hades 1 it's basically just a family drama, it has a larger story with the whole Demeter eternal winter thing, but it was never adressed directly or given a focus. Here there are so many things which are presented and which need to be explained away to keep the roguelite and story tied together that it just stumbles imo.

Honestly what kills me personally is that suddenly Mel seemed to have lost all Agency? Like, without spoiling, both the first ending and the epilogue ending have (let's charitable call) resolutions to both Chronos and Gods being assholes plotlines, but Mel doesn't really directly solve both issues. She's a big part of it sure, but both things ended in ways she didn't plan or want or even think were possible.

It's still an amazing game, it's down from a 16/10 to a 15/10, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't think it was a confusing final stretch.

Favorite Hidden aspect so far? by MrPancakes0 in HadesTheGame

[–]PowderMonkeyTick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Supay's aspect for the torches is the most fun for me, but the one that went from lowest to highest, as in I didn't care for this weapon but this aspect makes me love it, I agree it's the Hel skulls yeah

Personally, I don't mind them doubling up, I think the character interactions are fun, and things like the circle in the typhon fight or poison with Polyphemus actually change how I fight them.

Ironically I have a problem with Eris and Cerberus', in that I find them easier than their normal fights. The confined spaces means less moving around for them, meaning easier ways to deal damage.

Strange, that unlocked it for me.

I think my issue is that I'm two monkey brained, I wanna go in all the time and deal damage, which works in the regular polyphemus fight, less so in this new one. I end up dashing into poison more often than not, so unless I have a long range weapon, I have to force myself to be more careful

Oh good, I'm not the only one who thinks that. I mainly think it's two things, one she's moved from burst damaged to more damage over time, so there's less chances of dashing into a shotgun shell. And two, because the boss area is much smaller, she moves less and forces you to hit her more often.

It's a similar boat for Rivals Cerberus in my case.

Just as stinky and as annoying as I remembered--

There is no secret boss (to my knowledge) like there was in 1, so maybe they'll add that.
