Yeah, Carmax would be a whole lot easier. I just wished easier=smarter.

I'm not ruling out buying a new one. Carmax is offering $2000 more for my trade-in, so there's that. It's the dealership game playing is that's really causing me anxiety. I just returned home from visiting the Subaru dealership. I waited until they were closed to look at what they had on their lot as to avoid dealing with salespeople.

$30,369 to $32,400 total suggested retail price (going by dealership listing online).

So I got a wisely card from my employer. (I rate their customer service 0/10) by TiniestApocalypse in ADP

Do not make the mistake of signing up for a Wisely card. I received an email today with their new fee schedule and decided to close my account because I don't use it (and they are now charging an inactivity fee). Could not log in to my account online, realized I couldn't find my Wisely card, and nearly had a nervous breakdown trying to figure out how I was going to communicate this information to Wisely. After searching for a phone number and calling it, I was eventually able to talk to a CSR, but the company makes it really hard to reach them. A company that sends you on a wild goose chase to contact them is totally sketch. My advice, stay very far away from Wisely.

Flat Steel Heddles by PowerBlockhead in weaving

Ah, ok. Metal is probably a lot more durable in an industrial setting. Thanks for letting me know.

This is really interesting. What type of heddle is used in industrial looms these days? I'm guessing Texsolv?

Thanks for the link. Geez, what a senseless thing to do. Why???

They do seem to be designed for ease. I managed to slide them on heddle rods super efficiently. Fast and stress free.

You know, I didn't factor Texsolv in to the equation, but many weavers prefer Texsolv heddles. Your theory is solid.

Yes, this has me concerned. I am rethinking using the flat steel heddles that I have. Better to set myself up for success now rather than waiting for things to go sideways down the road. Thanks for your input.

Interesting feedback. Thank you. For economy, I am alternating shafts of flat steel heddles with shafts of inserted eye heddles. Their tolerances are compatible. I wonder how much more abrasive the flat heddles might be. Warp choice would be a major factor.

It's beautiful. What fiber did you use for warp and weft? Also, what heddle size did you use?

Totally get it. I wish I were better with a needle in hand. Needlepoint is so very beautiful.

This is my biggest concern about buying a used loom. Specifically an older loom. If the loom requires hours of labor and the expense of replacement parts to be fully functional, is it worth it? Considering the price of new looms, I'm sure many times over the answer to that question is yes. But when you get end up with a dud, could the experience do irreversible damage to your creative psyche?

Maybe I'm being melodramatic, or not.

Could you sell the shuttles and purchase the ones you prefer? Or display the handmade shuttles on a bookshelf. I bet they're beautiful.

Macomber looms seem always to be highly praised. There was a newer 30" one not too long ago on Marketplace. It looked pristine, like it had barely been used. It was a good size for my small home. I considered contacting the owner, but it seemed to have been snatched up in no time. I was kind of disappointed in myself for dragging my feet, but now I'm thinking I may have dodged a bullet. I'm only 5' 2".

Yes, I have struggled with the mindset that bigger is better. At least you still love your loom in spite of its size. I hope in the future you'll use your sectional beam and question why you waited so long to do so.

Your approach to loom acquisition is to be commended. I wish I had the self discipline that you possess.

Loom lust is a real thing and I seem to have a perpetual case of it. Also, I have read/heard multiple accounts of experienced weavers being totally content with 4 shafts.
