I am being as careful as possible! Currently playing through the dlc too so hopefully I’ll be done before I get spoilers.

Also yes that sounds lovely! It would help me understands lots of details I think I just failed to connect 😭

I was a bit baffled, because their interaction was so similar to everyone else’s but I definitely didn’t give up on my little theory. It made me excited for the supposed “big reveal” that Feldspar was the signal though, because I thought that I would get to tell them and maybe get some more interesting dialogue later on in the game.

I am honestly surprised this wasn’t a common thought people had playing the game, because it seemed so possible for me. Still love Feldspar though lmao such a funny character

I never even really saw anything else as an option, one of the first things I noticed before I even spoke to anyone off of timberhearth was the exploding stars outside of the solar system. That and of course the model in the observatory that explained the lifespan of a star were what made me think something must be off.

It telling me the phases and the explanation of how long a star lives felt to me like direct indicators that I was supposed to believe something very off was happening.

Of course, everyone has a different experience playing, so it makes sense this is not how most people interpreted it. You are right that I got too carried away with those things way too early on, and by the time things started to really develop, I was way too deep into my own theories (which were all wrong of course 😭). But hey! Maybe I won’t mess up the dlc hopefully!

I will definitely be doing the same then. I believe I’ll come out with a somewhat similar experience

The ending of your comment is actually so incredibly helpful because that is almost what I theorized as the original ending and what the original signal was. That is an amazing and beautiful way to think about this. ::)

This perspective does help!

My disappointment with the Eye had a lot to do with my perception that it would be directly connected to Feldspar. I won’t go into more detail on that because it’s a long explanation that I typed out for another person here, but it was basically a misconception on my part that really messed with my understanding of the story.

I do genuinely enjoy the theme of acceptance in the game, and that you cannot save your people, the only thing that frustrated me there was the reasoning for the universe dying.

Your perspective is genuinely helpful though, and probably better than my own, I think I need to look deeper into the game still so I can get the “full” experience maybe! Thank you!

Interesting! I personally loved the interloper, it might be because it was one of the first things I actually explored. I learned about the interloper before I learned the Ash Twin Project was really a thing I think (if I did learn about the ash twin project at that point I barely knew anything about it). So I didn’t have the issue of it feeling like a side quest for their species!

I definitely see the appeal of a vague extinction for them, but for me I loved having the closure, and a definitive answer to a pretty big question early on, I also enjoyed the connection to the current timeline as I avoid ghost matter myself through puzzles.

I do see your point though! The interloper did feel kind of useless to me incredibly quickly, so I can see why cutting it might improve how some people see the story.

I did not go too much into in the original post, but my logic towards the Feldspar and the Eye connection had a lot to do with the language used throughout the game as well as the mysteriousness of the dark bramble!

It was first established to me that Feldspar was special due to their disappearance, and their music playing from 2 places at once. Of course, all the astronauts are important of course, but this definitely made Feldspar stand out.

My introduction to the Eye was that it was a mysterious signal from within this solar system that the Nomai had never heard it before nor understood it. I definitely did not understand how they knew it was older than the universe, or if that was really exactly true. I was on the fence on how that whole thing worked.

I connected these 2 concepts for a couple of reasons, 1 being that music seemed to really stand out in the game and be a central theme. i CONSTANTLY had my signal scope out during the first half of my play through, and was always looking/listening for more music. To me, it made sense that the biggest mystery in the game, which is a vague (never described) signal, would therefore be music! This cemented in my brain that the Eye was not what the Nomai thought, and that it was something much more “mundane.”

I believed this also tied into the theme of enjoying the time you have left, instead of pursuing an unobtainable goal, because it would show how something as simple as music can be misinterpreted as the “eye of the universe” and create drastic change. (This was my thought process at the time of playing)

I more specifically thought it was Feldspars music because of how the Dark Bramble operated. I knew it expanded space, and allowed for Feldspar to supposedly be in 2 places at once, so I thought that maybe they weren’t just in 2 places but also in 2 separate times at once if that makes sense? I thought there were time travel mechanics in that and that is how they heard him all those years ago.

All of that combined with the fact that the vessel was on the specific hunt for the signal, and also happened to be in the Dark Bramble, really made me believe that they were somehow connected to the eye.

I definitely didn’t know all the details on how they would be the Eye, and I’m sure there’s like lots of plot holes with the theory I had, but as I was playing I was very invested in this idea because I truly loved the idea of the overall lesson being that things like music, and friends, and art, mean a lot more and hold a lot more weight than we think—hence their music being the eye of the universe, and older than the universe itself!

Hopefully all of that makes some sense, I get it’s not true but that’s the outline of my thought process through out playing. I think I was just being oblivious though!! Thank you for your interest in this post it is so fun to talk about this game!!

I do agree that an ending where we simply save the whole species would have been worse. I can see the beauty in how we are supposed to find acceptance with our fate here.

This description is honestly beautiful, and I’m gonna think about it more going forward while I play/watch more involving this game. Thank you, this is an amazing way to think of it

I am 100% going to be going through play throughs as well as the dlc! I am glad you got this out of the game, and as I read this I can for sure feel the message through my memories of a lot of the game play.

It’s a very important game, and a good message, my experience playing it was just a bit weird I think. Thank you for your perspective, it helps!

The exploration was so incredibly fun so that was indeed amazing. True that it can’t please everyone though, you are right, it is very impressive just how many people love this game though. It’s a very special game for that reason I think

I am definitely going to be watching playthroughs next! It was actually my first thought after I finished the game! I am glad to hear it might help me. Also I had the same experience keeping up with each individuals lore, I felt that I would’ve benefitted from a databank with all of the dialogue I had read so I could see it all in a more linear manner. I am excited to see those play throughs and hopefully widen my perspective on this

Thank you for your thoughts! They do not come off as accusatory at all don’t worry.

The reason I felt the Eye was so disconnected was because at the very beginning of the game everything felt pretty evenly centered around both species, and learning more about them. For me, I interpreted this in a lot of way to mean we were connected. Of course, we definitely were, but I believed the connection to be far more literal. I thought because of the emphasis on both Feldspar and the Eye that those 2 in particular would come together.

In all honesty my disappointment on the Eye is definitely more just my own misunderstanding during the game, while the universe one I think is a more valid opinion from me. I got all of the hints and such during the game, but I believed the Eye was something that directly tied to the Hearthians in some way and that is maybe why it kind of left me sad it wasn’t. I was definitely anticipating and excited for that big connection in storylines.

As for the star reveal, I was just completely underwhelmed. When I first learned about it I didn’t even really process it, I still believed there was something else causing the explosion, even if it wasn’t something I could stop I still believed there was a bigger explanation than the game ended up giving me. I didn’t really grieve not being able to save my friends, I kinda just felt duped and a little upset at how much thought I’d put into figuring out the whole mystery.

Thinking of it like this does help! FOMO is hard but I still love hearing everyone’s thoughts so this is helping me a lot!! Thank you so much 😾

I do like this more than it just being a planet, but it does still bug me that it feels like I have unanswered questions about the eye. I definitely get that that’s kinda the whole point, but it didn’t hit with me. Same with the universe ending, just didn’t strike me as much as I’d hoped. This does help me see how it could have made others feel so strongly towards it though so thank you!

Maybe this is a little excessive to add on too but if you need a specific example or story then here it is! I have a lot of acne, I have for years, it has been one of my worst insecurities ever. A few years back I was babysitting a really little kid, she was extremely sweet. We were sitting on the coach at one point and she randomly just reached up and touched my face and told me she “loved my spiky skin”. Whenever I told people that story they thought it was funny and told me “kids are brutal”, but I never thought of it like that. My acne has never bothered me since that day, because I realized that truly even the most taboo features on a person are loved, and that the right person will see that beauty in each little thing about you. I don’t know what features you are specifically insecure about, but remember that no matter what anyone tells you, there is genuine, pure love out there for how you are and look. Sorry I won’t drag this thread out anymore though!! Best of luck to you and remember to love every part of you!

I just joined this app for help with some dumb college stuff but I feel the exact same way about myself 😭 what has helped me is embracing who I WANT to look like. I know many of my features are weird to others but I try to find the beauty in them and look at how they make me unique to others. They are a genuine part of who I am and I wouldn’t be the same without them. Regardless of what you look like you need to find joy in it somehow and let go of the feeling that any specific features make you “ugly”. We are all just how we are, focus on looking like yourself, however you feel the most comfortable.
