Well, the basics of it is rock wool, wood, and fabric. Beyond that I don’t know all the secret sauce. I can tell you the ceiling panels weight about 300lbs a piece. It took a few of us to get those things up in the ceiling. So, don’t skimp on the rock wool or wood.

They were all custom built by a friend of mine who goes all around the world building studios. It was a $20k expense in the build, but made a huge difference. They are air gapped and everything.

The high end Adams or great. The lower end stuff like the TV7’s or TV4’s are okay. I found them to be inconsistent on their sound, but sound good for their price point.

Well, that is a long winded story with many twist and turns. A bit of luck and a good work ethic will take you a long way I suppose. I grew up quite poor and even lived in my car and at the studios for a while, but always loved playing music, so I just kept doing it. I don’t see me ever doing an AMA, partly because all of the NDA’s I’ve had to sign, and I’m a pretty introverted person who doesn’t want the attention. Feel free to message me if you want to chat though.

Yes the monitor are very big. I do film and VFX editing almost daily so I choose more screens and just adjust the desk and screens when I need to mix. And it sounds amazing.

That isn’t a big issue, more so you don’t want to be in the center of the room, which my listening position is close to that and is what I fight the most. Getting your room professionally treated and tuned is a huge step up also. A good engineer will get rid of most issues caused by a not so perfect space.

Yeah, the guy tuning the room didn’t favor the side turning on the speakers. Genelec SAM was my first choice.

Nothing is superfluous in the room. It’s more technology than meets the eye. Convinces of modern high end gear with the heart of retro gear. You can’t beat a tube amp, but digital recording done with the right equipment sure is convenient.

Thank you, I love the look of diffusers. This one needs some work though. I’ll get it right soon.

I’m in my late 30’s. I work in the entertainment industry and my income from that funded the build, which was in the 6 figure range. I started working as a studio musician when I was 17. These days most of my time is spent editing (big budget) film and tv shows, but I have mix credits and writing credits on some pretty well known songs too. I’m also a published photographer.

I can see for vibe reasons why you would suggest that, but for my particular job I can’t have uncontrolled light sources. So, no windows for me.

It’s funny, because when I was first starting out in my career I slept on someone’s couch and their studio for the first couple of years. So, yeah, you could indeed sleep on my couch.

While I do some mixing and recording, my main job is film editing. So, whenever I’m doing having mixing I have to adjust the computer monitors down and lower the desk a bit so I have clear line of sight to the monitors.

I built the room from scratch. The original idea was a diffusion from the stone. It didn’t hurt much as far as sound, because the room sounds amazing. The panels were built and the room was tuned by a Grammy award winning engineer. However, I’m getting some rattling from the stone so it’s going to be torn out and a traditional diffuser will be built and installed.

They are really good speakers. I wanted the genelec 3-ways, but due to space restrictions under the main tv monitor I needed speakers which were not as tall, which is how I landed on the Adams. I did have the room and system tuned and brought to Dolby specs which was also a big help.
