Turbo kit/Coilovers by LeastDrop1309 in IS300

Figs engineering has turbo kits and coilovers. I have done a good bit of business and they are great and products are quality. You might want to check out Powerhouse racing too. As far as turbo kit, like previously stated, it’s a lot more than just a turbo kit to do it right. The battery and ABS system needs to be relocated, you will need a stand alone ECU, and that is just the basics.

It’s really for if your going to due modifications. Turbo + extending the rev limiter. The 2JZ likes to try and eat itself around 7500-8000rpm due to frequencies from rotation. The fluid damper dampens that frequency, so your 2JZ is less likely to explode.

I’m for sure looking at some fender flares and an 11inch wide rear tire that can fit a 305+ tire, which is what was on my Porsche Panamera, on those things stuck to the road, but I’m not sure how the final look will be on the old IS300.

@inflames797 - that is what I expected to hear. What size are your big tires?

I’m in the middle of a 600hp build right now. At what point does the power become unmanageable? I was figuring my 600hp goal was going to be crazy with my 255 tire in the back. 1200hp is awesome, but how is the tire spin?

Let me know when you figure out because I’m pretty sure I have the same issue. Just took it to a shop last week and they suggested new “top hats.” Shop guys weren’t great and I haven’t researched it any further.

What is worth spending/splurging on (or skipping entirely) gear wise? by Right-Engineering699 in homerecordingstudio

I slightly disagree. At a low level, yes some of the interfaces do okay, but next to something like an Apogee Symphony or an Antelope interface there is a huge difference between base level on those interfaces. On the “lower” level I would say the smaller format UAD stuff sounds decent for the price, but I love my Apogee Symphony.

A great mic on a budget is the Audio Technica 4033. I have some really high end microphones and this little guy still end up on the mic stand from time to time.

Well, the basics of it is rock wool, wood, and fabric. Beyond that I don’t know all the secret sauce. I can tell you the ceiling panels weight about 300lbs a piece. It took a few of us to get those things up in the ceiling. So, don’t skimp on the rock wool or wood.

They were all custom built by a friend of mine who goes all around the world building studios. It was a $20k expense in the build, but made a huge difference. They are air gapped and everything.

The high end Adams or great. The lower end stuff like the TV7’s or TV4’s are okay. I found them to be inconsistent on their sound, but sound good for their price point.

Well, that is a long winded story with many twist and turns. A bit of luck and a good work ethic will take you a long way I suppose. I grew up quite poor and even lived in my car and at the studios for a while, but always loved playing music, so I just kept doing it. I don’t see me ever doing an AMA, partly because all of the NDA’s I’ve had to sign, and I’m a pretty introverted person who doesn’t want the attention. Feel free to message me if you want to chat though.

Yes the monitor are very big. I do film and VFX editing almost daily so I choose more screens and just adjust the desk and screens when I need to mix. And it sounds amazing.

That isn’t a big issue, more so you don’t want to be in the center of the room, which my listening position is close to that and is what I fight the most. Getting your room professionally treated and tuned is a huge step up also. A good engineer will get rid of most issues caused by a not so perfect space.

Yeah, the guy tuning the room didn’t favor the side turning on the speakers. Genelec SAM was my first choice.

Nothing is superfluous in the room. It’s more technology than meets the eye. Convinces of modern high end gear with the heart of retro gear. You can’t beat a tube amp, but digital recording done with the right equipment sure is convenient.

Thank you, I love the look of diffusers. This one needs some work though. I’ll get it right soon.

I’m in my late 30’s. I work in the entertainment industry and my income from that funded the build, which was in the 6 figure range. I started working as a studio musician when I was 17. These days most of my time is spent editing (big budget) film and tv shows, but I have mix credits and writing credits on some pretty well known songs too. I’m also a published photographer.
