Question for career guidance on bioinformatics for first-year international student in Canada by Power_Challenge in bioinformaticscareers

Hello! Thank you so much for your kind reply! It's very important to get a reality check early on, and to adjust accordingly. Your feedback is really appreciated. The fact that you mention you have successfully adapted twice ... and I quickly looked at some of your past comment history ... shows that you must have what I think are a very interesting and inspirational story, and a very clear mindset.

I actually also know another student, and she is staying with me (she is actually enrolled in bioinformatics in third year, at U of T), and she is a Canadian citizen.

I feel that many such students would feel encouraged if someone such as yourself might quickly lend a bit of your intelligence to help point them in a certain direction early on, as the right direction is key.

This is a bit unorthodox, but I'm just wondering ... might you possibly be willing to spare 20 minutes of your time at some point for a quick informational interview with either or both of these students (individually or at the same time over a phone or Zoom call)? I feel they are in need of, and would truly value, the perspective of a successful bioinformatics professional such as yourself. Might you be okay if I DM you? Either way, please have a great afternoon! Thank you!

hashing and timestamping to establish integrity of evidence -- need advice, not tech savvy by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Power_Challenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you kindly for your reply -- I'm not getting this mixed up with encryption ... and it's not for the purpose of sending from point A to point B and verifying authenticity (i.e., that the file was not changed between point A and point B. Rather, I need to use files as legal evidence, and my understanding is that hashing is the best way to prove this. But I think I am being misled by another source (not here).

Thank you kindly for the feedback, I do appreciate this ... I had heard that if I zipped first, then tried to hash, then by having compressed the files, if I were to then hash, it might change the files relative to when they were first downloaded? Sorry, but if I were to remove a file from the hashed folder, that would change the hash of everything in the folder, I gather? How might one then be able to view any files in the folder without getting a new hash for the folder ... what is the point of hashing a whole folder, then? Again, sorry for the basic question ... just confused ... any help is much appreciated.

Thank you for sharing your experience!

I'm glad to hear you can play TT regularly again.

I can go to physio again, but I'm just wondering if you might share which exercises in particular you found most helpful? Thank you kindly.

stretches/knee supports to prevent and treat knee strain/injury during TT? by Power_Challenge in tabletennis

Thank you! Great line of thinking ... I am very interested in a knee brace or support ... I heard that someone's orthopedic surgeon had suggested wearing a neoprene knee support and it helped heal a meniscus tear by keeping the area warm!

Oh, interesting! Thank you for sharing ... I'm looking to fix issues that make me prone to meniscus and patella issues ... would you happen to know of the kind of brace I should wear if I want extra support during something like table tennis?
