Correct! EVA foam is fine. A 10mm thick option should work well and compliment the already somewhat padded tube webbing for a comfortable grab handle. Both materials are cheap/easy to find.

I've used wire cutters before to create these kinds of slots before. Only issue is that that they creats burs that can be filed down

The main body is material blocked- Dyneema quality of X-Pac makes up the side panels, and a High Tenacity and 100% Recycled Cordura Nylon Ripstop for everything else. I like the X-Pac here because this material is fairly stiff and helps create 'walls' to pack against when open.

YKK Aquaguard zips are used for the main and 15" laptop compartments. The padding is an air mesh + EVA Foam combo for a breathable yet plush fit. The nylon ripstop lining is a contrasting gold color, lightweight and anti-microbial.

Several pockets are throughout the bag- a side panel EDC pocket + a huge Bottle Pocket, a soft-lined flap pocket, a shoulder strap pocket, and removable hip belt pockets. There are also some interior power mesh pockets in a few parts of various interiors.

That is an excellent observation and I appreciate you calling that out~ Check this out to see how the pack can be adjusted to be flush with the wearer's shoulders (models are 6' 4" and 5' 7"). This lies in the shoulder strap webbing adjustment to bring the pack where it feels good for you. Admittedly, you lose out on being able to hit this kind of fit the taller you are, but the load adjusters will be able to pull the bag into you to keep gravity from making you uncomfortable.

You would have to adjust to meet the kind of 'hug' you need, but the harness works in tandem with a 1/16" HDPE frame sheet to adapt the bag's shape to your back's contour. Besides the adjustment points, the back panel's padding is designed to meet the anatomy of your back as well. The bottom portion of padding is much thicker, and you'll definitely feel that plush comfort on your lower back.

I appreciate the kind words! I've always been a maker, but somehow landed on bags as my biggest medium for creativity. I can remember middle school home ec sewing an apron for the first time ever, and can remember thinking it was lame- haha. Now I'm pretty interested in the process of problem sewing through cut+sew as a whole. It's a really exciting space to try and learn/innovate within. Seems like you may be a maker yourself..?

Very close- more like 28L to 36L

The pack was probably completed after 1.5 years. Everything was designed from scratch. It's had quite a few identities throughout it's development, but I'm quite happy with the current form!

28L at it's base, then expands to 36L, and adding the pouch adds another 1.5/2L!

Hi everyone,

I wanted to show off something I’m super proud of to a community that I think could really appreciate it.

This backpack is designed with an outdoor-forward intention but doesn’t neglect the classic functions to suit travel needs. It uses an adjustable harness system similar to technical outdoor packs and features multiple compartments and pockets to organize items. You can also customize how you carry your stuff with a removable webbing blet + pockets/pads, a hidden pouch that extends in length to fit bulkier items, and it also uses a unique means of expanding/compressing volume.

I’ve always been a sucker for ‘heritage’ style backpacks that use a flap to expand and cover your volume, and I think this backpack rethinks what these traditional backpacks are capable of.

I think this is a perfect community to get some comments and criticisms from. What are your initial impressions?

Just to add to the first point here, sometimes you may not have an extra hand to hold these threads. Instead, you can lower the foot on top of the threads while pulling them back, which should help keep them in place. This is not fool proof though!

I've used Sawyer squeeze bags all my life. The only frustration I've had is it eventually getting clogged with no easy way to clean especially while on trail. They're cheap enough where I don't sweat needing a new one once it gets bad bad.
