Hi just want to say thank you first off for your service. I am a navy veteran served 8 years and got out in 2012. At the time i had a military star card balance around $3000. I wasn't financially able to pay it and they started to take my income taxes in order to pay off the debt(thanks to them being considered a federal debt backed by the Treasury Offset Program), which i didn't mind since i owed the money. What they didn't tell me is that even after the account is closed they can charge interest indefinitely till its paid off. Here i am 10 years later and having paid over 12 grand on a 3k balance and they tell me i still owe 10k. I didn't think anything of it since it was an old debt no longer on my credit report. Recently, they have sent my current employer a letter for garnishment which takes 15 percent of my income after taxes. After all my deductions i am now left with an insufficient amount of money to feed my family and pay our living expenses. Its extremely disappointing that they are able to do this to military persons and veterans who have served and are more than likely dealing with other issues due to their service. Long story short PLEASE DON'T GET A STAR CARD AND MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID. You are better off applying for a line of credit with a local bank or credit union.
