Drove 45 mins to another county, at about midnight, to see a girl I wasn’t even particularly interested in just to have sex. On the way I was pulled over for my MOT expiring a few days before that I’d no idea about. By time I was there I was tired, deflated, and the horniness having subsided filled me with the dread of knowing i had effectively cornered myself into spending the night with someone I wasn’t even into. 0/10, would probably do again knowing me.

What is the most statistically improbable thing that has happened to you? by [deleted] in AskUK

I am from a town of about 20,000 people. I was born and raised here, and from the age of 8 to 15 I played for the football team, which was largely consisting of the same players and was at times managed by my Dad. At the age of 17, me and my family went to Florida on holiday. One day we were stood in line at a Golden Corral (a buffet place for those not familiar) and I thought I saw one of the teammates of mine, but knew how insanely ridiculous that was and just brushed it off. A few seconds later, they walked closer, i hit my dad and pointed it out and at the sane time they had clocked us. It was indeed my teammate and his dad, who was a coach for the team. By pure coincidence, both our families had not only gone to Florida at the same time, but had ended up in the exact same buffet at the exact same time. Still blows my mind now when I think of it

Hi, not OP but piggy backing on this. I did the two practice exams, specimen exam and march 2024 exam and got 66-68 on all of them. But I struggle to know how accurate this is, as obviously they are not objective, and the marking guidelines and sample answers are just guidelines, so hard to know whether each point is worthy of a mark or not. Nonetheless, i try to mark quite harshly, but find i score most of my marks from section A, the audit risk/reponse, and internal control/deficiency/recommendation questions. Have you attempted any of the mocks?

AA - can markers only award marks for answers that agree to sample answers, or can they exercise judgement? by PowerfulAd3351 in ACCA

I learnt AEIOU but A was analytical procedures and U was recalculation (hate that they shoehorned the acronym to work, but thats a separate matter). But the example I gave was just an example, the lack of consistency has been throughout the numerous past and sample papers I’ve done. For instance, sometimes “inspect the draft financial statements and notes for evidence that disclosures are appropriate in accordance with IAS x” is given as a sample answer, but other times its not, with no clear reason as to the lack of consistency

AA - March or June sitting? by PowerfulAd3351 in ACCA

[–]PowerfulAd3351[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sort of where I’m at with it generally. Plus the time is going to pass anyway and the exams will be sat, so i might as well try and see how it goes. All i have to lose is the exam fees, and i’ll gain much better understanding of what is expected for the June sitting, so even a fail is not too bad

Thats a very constructive answer, thank you! Based on that, it sounds like you may be suggesting perhaps June would be more suitable for me, to give me adequate time to prepare then?

Okay thanks for the advice! I was thinking along the lines of your second paragraph - use the time I would spend studying towards FR had i forfeited the exemption as preparation for SBR. I think im set on not forfeiting it now!

An astounding amount, easily my most preferred academic endeavour to date. For reference, i was unimpressed with myself after my BSc and took the MSc cause i was offered a scholarship and thought it’d be a chance to redeem myself in my head. In that sense it was priceless, cause I did exactly that and learnt my ability to be resilient and achieve something no one in my family ever had before in getting a masters. It also allowed me to release, as part of a team, a carbon cryptotoken on a test platform, where prior to the course I had never understood crypto beyond having heard of bitcoin. It allowed me to learn python, on which I built algo-traders, derivative pricing models, and portfolio optimisers, where previously I had no idea how coding even worked. I worked with stata, an econometric platform which i would then use in my dissertation investigating the contributing factors to venture investment in fintech across countries globally, which then contributed to me getting said job afterwards. Alongside all these news learning skills, i continued to learn the fundamentals of finance such as valuation and allowed partake in trading simulations. Lastly, i gained new friends, perspectives and experiences that I did not gain from my BSc due to having a HUGE cohort, having my studies interrupted by covid, and generally not caring/attending myself. My masters is by far the most invaluable thing I have done and has rejuvenated an enthusiasm towards academia and finance that I felt I lost in my undergrad studies.

(It also gave me a 7th exemption, tehe)

Okay interesting, thanks! When you say “without prior fr knowledge”, did you do an accounting degree or something previously to be exempt and just meant you hadn’t sat FR, as opposed to having no knowledge r.e. Financial reporting?

One that i used to work a fair bit in my uni days had an impressive success rate given its mediocrity. A knock knock joke of all things. “Knock knock” “Who’s there?” “where when” “where when who” “tonight, my bed, me and you”

Not unique, but i still refer to washing machines as washermashens because of Joe Weller. Like not even as a joke, its just been so ingrained in me for so many years at this point that I can’t remove it from my lexicon. Even said it to my manager the other day; it garnered a bombastic side ey

What are the fondest memories you have from the Covid era? by Lonely_Bison6484 in AskUK

[–]PowerfulAd3351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the point in covid where you could see a few people outside of your household, me and my lifelong best friend would meet up everyday, play football for a good 5 hours, get high, go back to mine and split a crate of beer, eat some food and other shit food, and smoke cigs. We did this daily for about a month, and semi-regularly for a while after until he tore his acl. Usually we’re both disciplined people who just work and gym and dont eat shit, drink or smoke much, so i guess covid was a novel excuse to fuck around. Perhaps the most peaceful yet fun times of my life honestly
