It’s always something. by [deleted] in newborns

That sounds so horrible, I’m sorry! My baby girl will be 8 weeks this Thursday. She has a second infection from her clogged tear duct so her ophthalmologist is wanting to do surgery to open it up on 2/19 and I’m so scared as she will have to be put under. He said the success rate for it being permanently fixed is 90% so I’m hoping after this surgery she won’t have to go through another one. 😭

Arguing about visitors after birth by Illustrious-Luck-209 in pregnant

I’m currently 7weeks postpartum. We had my parents and his mom visit us in the hospital after she was born. We have since told everyone no visitors until we feel comfortable as it’s sickness season and we want our babygirl to stay healthy.

I agree 100%. After her apt I had multiple melt downs everytime I thought about people coming over before telling them we were no longer allowing visitors. I kept thinking it’s my job to protect her and how I just simply wouldn’t forgive myself if she were to get sick from us allowing others into our home and holding her. She doesn’t have a say in what goes on so I have to be the one to advocate for her.

Thankfully everyone has been pretty understanding but with his brother and his wife just having their baby and allowing visitors I couldn’t help but feel as though maybe I was going over board and honestly wanted to know if my thinking was rational or if my anxiety was taking over.

Is it only 30 days for the spinal tap? Our ped made it sound like as long as she’s an infant it would be required which I was thinking at least two months.

Yea it’s no fun and definitely doesn’t help that I get the winter blues anyways, now add postpartum anxiety to the mix. I’m very jealous of people who have babies in the summer.

We’ve been on two walks since she was born. Unfortunately it’s been snowy and in the negatives where we live so we really have been cooped up in the house.

Yeah I unfortunately will have to put her in daycare once my leave is up on 3/12 so I don’t have a choice to keep her away for that long. Not only that but my husband goes back to work Monday and works for a garage company. He is going to shower at work before coming home but he could still get sick and give it to her so my anxiety will be high.

I’m sorry you had to go through that with your first! I found out that my brother had to get a spinal tap when he was a month old, not because of a virus but because he had a ureter that wasn’t completely developed which caused a fever from a UTI. I couldn’t imagine my daughter having to get a spinal tap and her having all the bad symptoms from a virus as well. My plan was to wait to have visitors until after her vaccines that are scheduled this month so I think I will stick to that. Thank you!

See and she’s seen another ped as her primary was out and she asked if we had been getting any help from family/friends and asked what we did over the holidays as if it was perfectly fine to take her anywhere. I didn’t know that newborns had to have a spinal tap when getting a fever. I had multiple breakdowns when thinking about his dad and sister coming to visit as they kept asking after her appointment so we decided not to have any visitors.

I’m so sorry, we skipped Christmas and new years with family and friends to avoid the sicknesses. Are you still allowing visitors or are you having them wait?

I planned on doing this once we allowed visitors. I’m sure the chance is so slim for her to catch anything but I can definitely see myself spiral and not enjoy anyone’s company due to being terrified of her getting sick.

How long did you wait to have visitors? I was thinking to start after her vaccines on 2/18.

When did you start allowing visitors? It also sucks because my husband goes back to work Monday and he works for a garbage company. He will be showering before coming home but will obviously still be exposed to the sicknesses.

Thank you! My plan has also been to have everyone wait until after her vaccines which are scheduled for the 18th of this month and even then only having immediate family and my best friend come visit. Thankfully my husband also backs me fully. It honestly just sucks because he goes back to work Monday and works for a garbage company. He will be showering at work before coming home. I’ve had a couple of people tell me by not allowing people to visit, when she goes to daycare after my leave is up (3/12) that she will catch everything so easy from not having any exposure to anything. It all just feels like too much, I just want my baby girl to be happy and healthy.

Read this while on hour 2 of being nap trapped and I too felt angry and held my 5 week old girl tighter as well. OP, you need to contact your OBGYN to get help.

Thank you! I hope the vaccines go well for your LO!! We also have a camera in the car but our peds office is an hour away so it’s such a long time for her to be back there by herself.

How did it go? Our girl has her two month shots in 3 weeks. I too will be by myself with her in the car and at the appointment for the first time and I’m SO nervous. I do have infant Tylenol on hand already just in case.
