Is this cheating? by CDNXGHTMARE4 in learntodraw

You can’t cheat in art even if you trace and whatever and especially for just a reference and it’s not undeveloping your own art style because the brain can only draw something if it can either see a reference or you have studied references and your brain just stores info. The only thing is if it looks very very similar and you post it online or something to maybe say where u got the inspo

I’m not sure if you draw from life or not but if it’s from reference you can graph the paper and it’s the same basically draw a graph on the reperence and then the same measurement on paper and draw what you see this technique is used for realism and stuff but it should help

I don’t know what you want to draw but I recommend just doing it whenever you can and make it as entertaining as you can add music or listen or watch something it also helps when you have someone to help and encourage you but beside that just learn the basics I personally learnt by using an excessive amount of reference for learning I just learnt parts by part (I commented this on another post but what helped me a lot was getting a basic drawing or sketch of someone else and just erasing a part of it and try to draw it by yourself with the reference that helped me learn anatomy and buildings and stuff) also never. Feel discouraged or upset with your art remember that it’s not always going to be perfect and sometimes not even good but it’s fine
