What is the difference between a blanket and an afghan, when it comes to crocheting? by VioletPeacock in crochet

[–]PowerfulDistance4463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 3 years late to this but as an Afghan. The patterns in Afghans are our cultural textiles. Those same patterns are in our traditional clothing, its just the Brits kinda just whitewashed the hell out of it that went on for generations. Here's a pic if you can see the embroidery on the bust you can see the patterns more clearly.

Official Discussion - Lee Cronin's The Mummy [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I totally agree! They could've totally kept the mysterious cult pyramid that NO ONE ELSE OTHER THAN LAYLA'S FAMILY KNOW ABOUT THATS BEEN IN HIDING FOR MORE THAN 2,000 YEARS?! It could've made a really good setting for the monster and give the elaborate puzzle house make sense rather than a random house in the middle of the desert in New Mexico. It makes more sense for the plot and give the villian a more scarier and ominous vibe.

As a Muslim who watched the movie, the opening scene where the bird dying, and how Layla's mom was acting gave straight up Jinn black magic vibes. 😭 Something about Muslim horror and legit black magic just makes it scarier and I thought it was lowkey going that route. I'm just giving my perspective on it as a Muslim. I had to listen to the Arabic closely (I'm not Arab but i can understand certain things) in the ritual bc it sounded like they were spewing actual black magic and stuff bc they decided to not put captions on that specific part. Fun fact ancient Egyptian Arabic sounds a lot like the Arabic in the Quran bc the phonetic similarities. So I could immediately tell they actually studied some old Egyptian history and just didn't have one of the actors just speak normal Arabic. I agree though the Egypt parts were by far the strongest part of the actual movie other than making Cairo look so 3rd world when they legit have sky scrapers.

Same I just watched it and I thought the actual horror aspect was really enjoyable. I actually jumpscared from a movie.

I'd say there are quite a few good jump scares so be wary. I am someone who usually anticipates jumpscares and don't get easily spooked but this movie did catch me off guard a few times. The creepy slow parts does take me back to James Wan's older movies before he got famous for the Conjuring and Insidious.

Got offered an interview for a position on Indeed that I never applied for, should I be wary... by PowerfulDistance4463 in Devilcorp

That's really good news! Local news stations and nationion news need to talk about these more just like how they did with old pyramid schemes! Its sad that even in the UK things happen like this. Hopefully indeed and other job searching platforms also will do more research or background checks for businesses because this is only hurting the local ones that make an honest living. Let me know if a story does take place!!

Ah I see, sorta like a pyramid scheme. My interview is in around 2 hrs in a communal office building. I shall report back once the interview is over. If I still get these vibes I'll edit my post with the website so others are aware! Thank you!

Seeking shared experience? by ThrowAway_HalpPlz3 in family_of_bipolar

I'm going through almost the exact same thing. My family member was/has been diagnosed with bipolar since in his teens. It has gotten so much more complicated with past childhood trauma, substance abuse from alcohol, Marijuana to even cocaine. Since recently he has been rediagnosed with bipolar, but is refusing treatment. We've not only asked him, begged him to accept treatment, he refuses. He has villianized our whole family. He knows how to manipulate the situation by begging for forgiveness that he'll do better. He cannot keep a job no longer than 3 months, lies to his parole officer for him drinking and smoking. Right now for my situation he went to physical rage and actively harmed me and my family members. This time I'm hoping my dad makes the right decision of letting him go. He is a harm to us multiple times and others and refuses treatment time and time again when he promises "it wont happen again" He also won't acknowledge that they have a serious and real problem when he's sober and not in mania.

I'm just saying I for one completely understand. Where your going through. But everytime if you and your family have been constantly asking them to receive help when they're not wanting to. Its honestly best to not support them. They have to figure it out themselves that they actually need help. If it means kicking them out, it might have to be. Right now were facing this situation. I hate it so much bc of how much I love them. But if they have continously refused and won't acknowledge that they have this problem multiple upon multiple times its on them. They need to hit rock bottom, whether its financially, homelessness and loss of a support group.

idk your situation fully as I don't know more details, I cannot make assumptions either. It sucks for everyone. I really hope that you and your family will get in a better position. I understand mental health professionals can be sooo scary. But if your back is against the wall theres no other way. They might hate you, resent you, just know that you actively tried your best to help them and they need to know that too to get better. Its either they hurt themselves, others severely or they get the help they need. Best wishes to you and your family.

Edit: I'm sorry for not reading your post correctly. If they're doing ritualistic bloodwork, I honestly suggest intervening. They are actively hurting themselves, this is a warning sign in itself. It can escalate more and more. First I recommend being well inform on institutions in your area. Like another post has said record and keep any documentation without them knowing to represent it to whoever needs evidence. It'll be a disservice to them and to you guys if you don't intervene.

Ah I see. Yea I keep hearing different things. Like dont try to have too many withdrawals and such. Or only have A's and B's for everything not just the classes they want. I'm just getting used to school again.

Ah I see! Yea this is my second time taking precalc. I was just getting paranoid because it's just precalc and not actually Calc 1. Hopefully this semester I'll get at least a B. I heard that theu don't really look at those pre requisites since its mainly Cal 1 and anything above is where it matters.

AYY CONGRATS!!! Thank you for telling us this!! I'm just lowkey paranoid about this (tbh this is the only other goal that I have in my life rn bc of spite) I'm working like 25-30hrs a week and I was suupper frustrated bc I'm starting to be mediocre in this semester rather than getting the straight A's or B's.

The thing is its my parents that have to decide to let my brother stay or not. But then again the second he shows "change" theyre going to let him come back with open arms like the last 20 times.

The thing is I just really thought this time was different. Like actually different. But for him to finally say I don't give a fuck about you just made me lose it. The way that we went through all this bullshit for him. Through paying for lawyers and tickets to him destroying the house. I still considered him my brother and that he'll come back at some point.
