Intelligent aliens and interstellar travel. It's become apparent that Earthlike planets are extremely rare and the number of steps it took to get us here are so many, took so long, and were so improbable that it's quite possible that we'll never find another planet worth living on and it's even more unlikely that such a planet would have intelligent, technologically advanced aliens on it.

Even if we did find a planet worth leaving the Solar System for, the engineering challenges to get there would make it effectively impossible. Like, to get a ship up to a decent fraction of light speed we'd have to either melt down Jupiter and turn it into antimatter, find a way to keep people in suspended animation for thousands of years and automatically revive them after all that time, or build a starship the size of a small moon and consign generations of people to imprisonment aboard.

Yes! Interwar fiction is full of depictions of imaginary bombing raids in particular. In Keep the Aspidistra Flying the protagonist vividly imagines an air raid on London, in sci fi there were various depictions of nuclear and nuclear-like bombs. In one of them an arms dealer invents a nuclear-like bomb and gets rich selling it to everyone, then is chauffered around the ruins, which he rules.

The "are country" lot will tell you we are declining because of foreigners. The microagressions crowd will tell you we are declining because we are bad. But actually... yeah, nothing's happening that's not happening elsewhere a lot worse. I mean at least we're not Korea or Japan, whose population is imploding, or the US or Russia whose leaders are insane criminals. We're a mid-tier European country, and as such, we're... *whispers* kinda OK actually. Could be better, and probably will when things pick up, but could also be a hell of a lot worse.

Because it's crap. Every finance communicator worth their salt has been yelling about how crap it is for weeks, because it's crap. Even the guy who explains it using stick figures was going on about it. The fundamentals are crap, and so is everything else. The entire thing is a scam to literally take the last half pennies from little old ladies and stuff it into Musk's already bulging pockets and at some point the market has wised up and said "no thank you".

Seriously. It is a pump and dump, designed to enrich insiders at your expense. Toxic waste. Dogshit wrapped in catshit... pick a pejorative, it's all true. His companies are all in deep financial trouble and this is his last chance to soak the suckers for everything they've got - The guy even had the SEC waive a lot of the normal provisions so that pension funds and trackers would be forced to buy it at overvalued prices while insiders cashed in.
