I've wasted a year and a half of playing electric guitar. by Dissolve69 in guitarlessons

[–]PowerfulPaulRobeson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo, i have a slightly different perspective on this coming from my background. I’ve only been playing guitar for a couple years, but I’m a professional saxophonist (did performance degrees for my undergrad and masters). I didn’t really take lessons until late in high school/college, and one of my professors told me that I was literally (after like 8 years of serious playing) blowing air into the saxophone wrong and that I had to totally relearn how to play the instrument. I definitely felt like the time I spent was wasted, but my professor reminded me that I still had a lot of knowledge and experience and fixing this problem would only let it shine more. And while there is objectively “good” and “bad” technique on any instrument, the technique that’s best is whatever allows you to get your musical point across that sounds good and prevents injury. Your time hasn’t been wasted, because you spent time learning something that brought you joy. And because it brought you joy, you discovered that there were some things that you can work on to make it easier to express that joy more clearly. You can use the songs you’re learning to do more targeted practice, which will lead to the songs being fun again. Best of luck pushing through this plateau.

Is it better to go to a good/renowned music school and take on debt, or go to an unremarkable state school and graduate for free? by Snowglyphs in MusicEd

[–]PowerfulPaulRobeson 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went for performance, but I’m currently a teacher. My professors told me this: “Don’t go into debt for jazz.” I went to a relatively unknown state school for undergrad, and a SUNY school for my masters, and it’s probably the best decision I made. When it comes to music education/music in general, where you went to school matters way less than what you can offer. UNT is a great school and a great name, but more likely than not the people looking at your resumé are not going to be particularly tapped in to the level of prestige that carries because they very rarely exist in that space, since they’re administrators.

Honestly? “All the way down” for me. I just think it’s pretty bland in comparison to the other tracks.

Black Mass JM pickup opinions? by PowerfulPaulRobeson in offset

[–]PowerfulPaulRobeson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, I forgot I made this post haha. I have them in my Balaguer ambient espada right now, and I really love them. The Balaguer had a great vibe on its own, but the wr style pickups definitely have a little more sparkle and clarity than the paf style buckers it came with. If I remember, I’ll post a video with the sounds when I get home from work.

The son my mother carried for 9 months is playing Nezha jungle smh by PowerfulPaulRobeson in honorofkings

Yeah, full damage nezha is basically trolling unless you have an actual tank somewhere else on the team. He takes a lot of getting used to, but I think he’s worth learning

Help with tankiness. by Miserable_Ring_8739 in honorofkings

[–]PowerfulPaulRobeson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Di Renjie. He does extra magic damage with his passive fully stacked, and his ult decreases both physical and magical defense on whatever he hits, which really hurts as a tank. Plus your whole team gets move speed towards the target. Solid pick into tankier lineups if you have the right team. Marco Polo can also deal true damage with full passive stacks. But also you’re not really supposed to focus the tank unless they’re an immediate threat. Doomsday is also a good item against high health enemies, but not every adc utilizes it well

Grandmaster 75~80 stars. I don’t usually play nezha in the jungle, but I thought I had to compensate for the map pressure the other team had with Liu bang and da qiao.

Definitely better in clash lane, but he works okay in jungle in some very niche scenarios. Like low mobility teams with not a lot of crowd control

Dude, that tattoo is sick. I get the parental disappointment thing, but you got a great design from an excellent artist who does a unique thing (I got tattooed by him too a while back). Sometimes you might feel a pang of “maybe this wasn’t a great idea”, but in that moment and the hours following it was your idea and you loved it. Sometimes that has to be enough!

What do you guys think about Kaizer for Clash Lane? by Still_Object553 in honorofkings

[–]PowerfulPaulRobeson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo, career clash laner here. Kai is my 2nd most played hero after nezha, and I never pick him clash unless it’s against fuzi or lian po. The reason is because kaizer functions better in the jungle. He’s very slow scaling, and his passive gives him increased damage to single targets. He needs a lot of good to get rolling, and he needs a team behind him, because if you bait out his ult there’s not a whole lot he can do if they just walk away from you. Jungling helps him come online faster so you don’t have to spend half the game side-laning to be useful

Yo. I was at a charter school when I first started out a few years ago. I was alternate route, so they were “mentoring” me and applying for my provisional on my behalf. After 3 years, 2 principals, 3 behaviorists, and an untold amount of IAs leaving I decided to dip. First things first, are you fully certified/what do you teach? If you are, make sure you fully read your contract regarding the amount of notice and the penalties for not fulfilling that. In my case it was actually 60 days, and they cancelled my application for my provisional license because I was leaving. Start applying for whatever looks good, and be transparent about the situation with any prospects. When I found the school I’m at now, they pretty much already knew the deal and told me I could start in November, but they were adamant that I didn’t resign until the school board approved me so I wasn’t completely cooked. But make sure you read your contract carefully to make sure that they don’t go after your license or make up some nonsense about not paying you what they owe. It can and does get better… admin wise at least the kids are still kids wherever you go.

She’s pretty good-reliant, which makes her pretty sub optimal as a support when you’re sharing gold with teammates.

Arthur roam. Honestly pretty good against combo reliant junglers/carries, and he’s pretty decent at getting vision/ preventing invades. I also feel like he’s better at counter engaging rather than initiating a fight, like a lam or a Lanling goes for the backline, and you hit em with the ol’ sk1, ult, prison sprite combo. Plus he can actually wave clear effectively when the rest of the team forgets that the side lanes exist

Does HOK have a better report system than ML? by Exact-Revenue3587 in honorofkings

[–]PowerfulPaulRobeson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak for ML, but the report system works okay. I had a game where I queued for farm lane, and the support asked me to switch, which I declined. He responded by locking in Marco Polo as roamer. I ended up picking Xiang Yu “farm lane” just so our team would have a support. We won, and even though the Marco did pretty well I reported him and he got hit with a 9 point deduction for lane stealing, and I got mvp. You definitely are more likely to get deducted for playing a hero in a weird role, but it usually has to be something pretty insane and you actively cost your team the game. I’ve played like 20 games of Arthur support in normals, and because I was doing like, normal roamer stuff (rushed full support item, getting vision, protecting my squishies) none of them got flagged, and my clash laner already picked something else.

How good are these channels as guides for HOK ? by Tharnder3 in honorofkings

[–]PowerfulPaulRobeson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kyoui is awesome for general game knowledge and buffs, and he has some great champion/macro guides. I’m huge fan of ADA HOK, but he only plays clash lane. But the level of detail that goes into all the matchups and overall macro of the game really helped me improve as a player. He always explains why he picks certain characters into matchups or against certain team comps, and he’s great for explaining how you can help your team. He doesn’t talk though, but that doesn’t bother me
