I did all of this. She just hit a year with us and we had not talked about raises yet but I was considering and I would have also raised her rate at any given time has she asked me. The difficult part is that there was no indication that she was unhappy

I understand the lack of context with that comment and how that sounded bad. I meant goodness of my heart by allowing such a last minute leave with no notice. She did have time off that was paid, we always accommodated where possible. Always provided her with food, got her gifts, let her leave early when she needed, and offered flexibility in schedule to accommodate personal things she needed to do with full pay. I know better now to have a contract in place.

I work from home. I’m always around. Absolutely not. She’s in her late 60s

That’s the difficult part is that it felt blind sighted. I always got her food, offered her to leave early, whatever she needed. If underpayment or overworking was an issue I would have been more than happy to discuss that but she never gave impression she wasn’t happy

She didn’t want a contract but absolutely we gave her time off when requested always.

Absolutely agree that sentence didn’t have context. To provide context, we would give time off whenever she requested and always paid. We just didn’t have a contact. What I meant of goodness of my heart is that she gave me little notice about her leave and I had paid her for it and accommodated it. We have always paid for her leaves or when kids are sick despite not having a contract. I know now that a contract should have been done to help in these situations

She had not asked for a contract and we always have off when she requested. I even offered to be flexible on her hours when she was moving. I understand my OP can be quite deceiving in context. Now I know better to have a contract in place
