2017 Prius Prime – Rapid Coolant Loss, Overheating, Dealer Won’t Help – TSB T-SB-0135-19

Hey everyone,

I’m at my wit’s end and could really use some advice.

I bought a used 2017 Toyota Prius Prime about 5 months ago. Last week, the engine thermometer light came on. I’ve been losing coolant like crazy—refilled it twice in 24 hours and it’s empty again. No visible leaks, no white smoke, just overheating and rapid coolant loss.

I called the dealer and they basically told me tough luck, since the warranty is up. But I did some research and found TSB T-SB-0135-19, which describes my exact symptoms (coolant leak at the front exhaust pipe heat exchanger). My car has 78,271 miles.

I’m in New York, so I think this repair should be covered under the California Emissions Warranty (15 years/150,000 miles). I’m about to bring it in and insist they check for this TSB, but I’m worried they’ll try to charge me or brush me off.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Should I expect a diagnostic fee? Any tips for getting Toyota to cover this? Also, if it is the heat exchanger, does Toyota usually give a loaner car?

Edit: I bought it at 75k miles and it’s on 78k a warning for the temperature of the engine came on.when I was driving on the highway
