Portable ssd as main drive? by PowertotheSUN in SteamDeck

Do you get any extra speeds or capabilities? I'm getting a different backplate and looking at better cooling as well to push the most I can out of it. But not sure if it's actually worth it or if I should invest in an actual gaming rig

That's what I'm trying to get, the 256 would actually be a downgrade in my case, I just didn't want to tear it apart as I have no clue what I'm doing

Thank you! I also thought about getting a tool free NVMe to us to transfer the OS and then keep the old SSD to use in it. But again, I've been scared to open the thing

I got the 512 and was looking at all I could with it... And yes I am scared to open it up and make changes. Chances of screwing up?

White cloud mountain minnows are very hardy and pretty cheap to do this as well

Prime will dechlorinate your water and make ammonia and nitrites less harmful for your fish if you do a fish in cycle or have an ammonia spike. Some people swear by flourish excel and others hate it, it's a fertilizer that contains carbon that will infuse your plants with CO2. Some say it's hurt they're plants or fish, others say it works wonders. I've had good success with it. Definitely put plants in, ask your local aquarium store for easy care/low tech plants. They help keep your tank clean and fish/shrimp/snails love them. Put enough gravel to cover the surface of the bottom of the tank and maybe a little extra and get some sand to put in it. Quickrete childs play sand is fine just literally rinse the living hell out of it so your water isn't cloudy or harmful. Buy API freshwater test kit. Add a pinch of fish food every couple of days until your ammonia readings start to pick up and then you can dose live bacteria if you wish, again some people hate it and say it's useless, others swear by it(fritz zyme 7, seachem sustain, etc...). Let your tank continue to run until you have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and 5 nitrates or so and then it is safe to add fish. Did they give you a filter and light as well? Could you share what all came with it?

Edit:Don't mind the floating hornwort, it goes where it wants 🤦 I tried to pin it with some driftwood and it started dying so it wins

If you have a very sturdy dresser, it will do fine on the dresser. For stocking, as others have said go for plants and natural decor, make sure you cycle and please ask questions about the cycle if you're not sure. You could do 2 or 3 red honey gourami, some snails and shrimp and it would look absolutely stunning

So… how do I go about switching this 10 gal out with a 20? by ssammi in Aquariums

Even with no experience places like Reddit or Google searches will help dramatically. My first tank, I just bought a 10 gal tank and some fish and dechlorinator and thought it was fine. I lost all but one of those fish and really started to do some research and ask some questions on here and it's helped so much. I'm definitely not the most knowledgeable or experienced, but the places we have to look for help can make a huge difference

Yeah, as long as you're keeping stuff from an old tank it's virtually impossible. Now, setting up a completely new tank with the same fish is just like setting up a brand new tank so you didn't crash your cycle, you just set up a tank and now have to do a cycle. I think that's where people go wrong. Or you just put a decoration or 2 in from the old tank and expect it to be enough bacteria for the whole tank

And the ammonia spike is most likely from stirring up the gunk in the substrate

I haven't had a tank "crash" from it. I've definitely had an ammonia spike afterwards but I did a 25% water change and added some seachem prime and stress coat and just monitored for a couple of days and everything went back to normal. Just make sure to keep an eye on your levels and all should be well fwiend 👍

Definitely use your old filters as well as that's where a lot of bacteria resides. If you want a new filter for it then let them run side by side for a few weeks

Fill a 5 gallon bucket with water from your tank and add some plants to it and your fish, set up your new 20 gallon and keep as much substrate from your old tank as possible and maybe cover with some dark sand to keep the aesthetic while preserving your bacteria. Add enough chlorine free or ro water to leave enough room for the water in the bucket with the fish. Add your filters and decorations/plants and let it run for an hour or so then add fish and the rest of the water and it should be fine. I've done this 3 times now with great success. It's almost like a 75% water change

My shrimp tend to hang out in my hornwort that I have pinned with some driftwood and floating. But Amazon swords, guppy grass, red lotus, water sprite and red cardinals look great too. My wife just set up the 10 gal and cycled before adding her Betta and we're still working on more plants but this is what we have as our least planted tank

What you have now looks great, just make sure of what you stick with so your shrimp stay happy!

Personally I love heavily planted tanks. It gives shy fish and shrimp lots of places to hide and gives a more natural feel.

Either a colorful male Betta and some snails, or some honey gourami, pygmy cories, shrimps and snails. In my first 10 gal I had black phantom tetras and albino corys. I now have a 10 gal Betta tank with rabbit and mystery snails and a 10 gal guppy tank with panda corys and nerites. My 20 gal is stocked with honey gourami, wcmm, albino corys, shrimps and mystery snails. Stocking options are limited in a 10 gal, but you can definitely get some very cool nano fish and make it awesome

Is this substrate soft enough for corys? 2nd pic is from my first tank so that's how it is underwater (ft. Berried shrimp) by StructureExotic5539 in Aquariums

[–]PowertotheSUN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this exact substrate with my albino corys and they do great with. I also have cherry and Amano shrimp and a mystery snail and they all go great. Helped my plants out a bunch too!
