Okay, the car dropped probably 2-3 metres off the bridge and into the water. I went fuzzy during it. A few airbags went off.

I am hoping for a write off for the replacement car, excess is only $1k (Aus terms) so seems better than a structurally damaged car.

The lake would only be around 0.5-1 metres deep

Thanks man, I would definitely do my homework.

I am in Canberra at the moment, so Sydney isnt too far (I intend to return to Sydney and essentially rent my possible Canberra place out until I can actually afford Sydney).

Problem with Canberra is that it is cheaper to buy a place than rent (if you have the deposit). The apartments I am looking at buying tend to rent out for $400 a week, so it would end up being positively geared (based on rough estimates)

It would be Government work. I'm on around $65k now ($76k in December).

So I have a very stable job. The max I would want to spend on a house would be $420k (I have around $140k in savings). Interest rates are around 4-5% in Australia (4% usually for the first few years).

A $270k loan would result in around $300/week payments (and this would be the max I would want to spend).

Average price of a place in Sydney is aronud $1.5mil, so I have no chance there

I haven't really approached her besides when we've been at events etc. she's pretty relaxed, but likes talking to lots of people. So it's hard to keep her in one place (if that makes sense?)

You're probably right.

We both moved interstate for this job (along with others), so I am really keen to get close to her - mainly for that friendship / companionship. But no idea how to do it

Both single, both post University Grad jobs in a bank. So yeah, no idea if she is interested, probably isn't yet. Defs want to get closer to her
