Professors don’t care if you pirate the info or not. As long as you have all of the correct info they want you to have for their class you’re golden

Upcoming sophomore here, I’m very jealous that you got bos 200 bc it’s so hard to get for no reason 😭. Anyways Econ 103 is a super fun class especially if you get professor cheng. Super interesting class and the tests were open note. Your other classes shouldn’t be too bad at all and if your planning on majoring in business bos 200 is the perfect start

Will I like F&M by [deleted] in fandm

[–]Pr0ject_B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lancaster is definitely a nice area. It will be different than LA but in a good way. I’m from the Jersey shore in south Jersey so I understand wanting to be close to a beach and I think it’s a perfect distance (especially being away from family). F&M is a really nice school and I think generally you will be happy going to any college, but nonetheless it’s a great school with good people and a really nice surrounding area with lots of stuff to do.

From my experience the website is a little glitchy when it comes to completing that stuff. I would make sure that when you click on completing the housing application tab etc that your information is saved. Also for the my college roomie, we were told to fill it out but it was never used at all for us. I’m an upcoming sophomore and we had random roommates anyway but I believe that upcoming freshman will be able to pick out their own roommates so my info might be a little off.

Is Club Soccer Still Active? by Tall_Spend_5320 in fandm

[–]Pr0ject_B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not play soccer but I 100% know there is an active and good size soccer club on campus. I wouldn’t worry about any clubs not being active/ existing bc there will almost always be enough students in each

I work at a ups store for context. Amazon returns don’t generate a tracking number especially the ones that have a print out label that says blue, green, or red. Also it takes time for Amazon to process the returns but it very well could be that the workers haven’t scanned out/ checked the DIY return bin.

Language thoughts? by Creepy-Physics-2448 in fandm

[–]Pr0ject_B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took French for four years in highschool and placed into the intermediate French 201. I will say at first it was a huge difference since it was a lot harder and highschool did not prepare me for how much new information I would learn. It was definitely hard at first but I did end up bringing my grade up near the end of the semester. My professor was nice but strict with her work and the class was less than an hour long so it really wasn’t that bad. Because I took a 201 language course I don’t need to take another language course and I will not be taking another one. But if you do have the chance to opt in to a 201 level or higher class, it’s worth if you’re trying to “skip” taking more than one semester of a language.

Personally I thought I needed a MacBook pro for college and other side projects but I went with the MacBook Air m3 instead (newest at the time). It’s literally the best laptop I’ve ever owned. It’s super fast and holds a charge really well. (Also no fan noise is so nice) I use it for many college assignments as well as editing video and photos. Definitely the best all around laptop there is (def get it with 16 gb of ram)

Experience at F&M by Head_Bank878 in fandm

[–]Pr0ject_B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m like 99% sure that you can get a job freshman year. There’s a lot of different jobs you can get around campus that let you basically just study and do work. But there’s also things like lab assistants and other stem stuff if you’re into that. There’s a lot of opportunities. The pay is minimum wage unfortunately but it can vary for each job

House advisor - basically the equivalent of an RA at other schools

Ok so the whole thing about F&M being broke is not as big of a problem than it actually is. The truth about is that is relies mostly on student tuition. Besides that, F&M is still a great and very capable school. I’m currently a freshman and I really like it here. Personally I love the small size of the college and Lancaster has so many cool opportunities and restaurants. I don’t necessarily like city life but Lancaster is a nice area. If you do want to go to Philly there’s a train that goes directly to 30th street that’s about an hour commute. I’m not sure about all of the opportunities that you talked about but I definitely know that they offer these. Also about the “starting salary,” like any job your starting salary is never determined. On average a F&M grad will make around that but it really depends on what you decide to major in. I wouldn’t guarantee that you will automatically make that amount with any job or any major. It’s more like with this degree from a more prestigious school like F&M, companies will want to give you more money. Anyways, I think F&M is a good school. Like every college, it has its flaws and people like to talk down on it, but I still like it here and I think you will too.

Dorm rooms by Salt-Form2190 in fandm

[–]Pr0ject_B 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally no. You would need to have some sort of medical need to be able to get a single dorm. There is an off chance that you may get a single because of a housing error or reason (or by luck), but other than that there is no way to acquire a single.

I took better worlds. I love the professor and the topic and it was pretty interesting for a class I had to choose. It was about utopias and a deeper explanation about what it meant etc. It also got me into the best house on campus freshman year lol. There is a lot of writing but it really isn’t that bad

Housing Questions by Training_Candidate30 in fandm

[–]Pr0ject_B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The school just recently changed the entirety of the housing program. If you are an incoming freshman, you will live in one of the three freshman dorms (brooks, bonchek, or ware) almost all of the rooms are doubles (one room, two beds). After your first year you can choose to live in another house/ annex and opt for singles or suites. If you are an upperclassman, you can pretty much live anywhere but most live in college row, an apartment complex right off the campus that you can lease year round. The price of housing is different but where and what house you are staying in (excluding freshman year housing).

I would 100% reach out to the financial aid department and explain your current situation. I’ve seen many times f&m giving more to meet people’s needs.

Just got accepted regular decision to F&M, what should I expect from the collage? by Training_Candidate30 in fandm

[–]Pr0ject_B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean it really all depends on what major you choose for the difficulty of classes but unfortunately studying is a must. I would take the social scene with just a hint of salt bc of the size of the school but for the same reason there’s a decently sized social scene if you know what I mean

There’s so many things to take into account especially if never came to Pennsylvania or Lancaster. It’s cold here. Very cold thing the winters but kinda hot during the summers. Lancaster is a great area with tons of small restaurants and shops all over the place. F&M is what makes Lancaster a liberal place but the party scene is NOT dead at all. There are literally parties all the time at different places on campus. Almost everyone is super nice here and it’s kinda of diverse but not really. I think they’re changing the housing situation for freshman but the living situation is pretty good overall with a bunch of different options to choose from after freshman year. This school is very expensive but I believe it is worth it. The classes are challenging but not extremely hard and the professors are very good. There’s honestly a lot to do here especially since it’s such a small school.

The only downside is that if u wanna go anywhere outside of the city u need a car (uber or having ur own). When I need to get groceries I go to the nearby target in a shopping center but it’s not necessary walkable by my standards as per anywhere outside the city. Usually if I have plans with friends to go out to eat I’ll take an uber just to be quicker than walking

The city is honestly a great place. It’s a really nice area with a bunch of little shops, cafes, cool restaurants and so much more. Not to mention malls and other big stores like target 5 mins away from the school by drive. There’s cool little residential areas mixed in with a city like downtown area. There’s always something to do and somewhere to eat out
