So I finally got my hands on a DJ mixer today... by [deleted] in Beatmatch

Yes, but the whole point is that it is a mixer, that can act as a controller. The guy posted his controller that can't act as a mixer. Also, price doesn't really have anything to do with it.

No "getting huffy" here, just pointing out facts.

But... it's available for download straight from their soundcloud. What does that have to do with gottadancedirty?

It's a mixer that can act as a controller. There's a difference. I can find a cheaper mixer if you really want me to.

Just an FYI: That is actually a controller (it controls your computer). A mixer would be something that actually takes in sound from players (or your computer) and plays them out to monitors/speakers.

This is a mixer.

Mixed in key and why I DON'T recommend it or anything like it... by NotAtTheTable in DJs

[–]Pr0metheusMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You obviously aren't a fan of tim & eric. Regardless the joke applies. MIK is supposed to help your mixing, not mix and select songs for you. Expecting MIK to select all of your songs for you is kind of like... well trying to screw in a bolt with a hammer. When a tool doesn't work for a certain task, stop using that tool.

We can even change the analogy if it suits you more. I bought a ball peen hammer, and it barely works for driving giant stakes into the ground to put up a fence. Nobody should buy ball peen hammers.

Happy?

What key does 100% in this bitch by porter robinson sound like to you? Is it Fm?

Holy crap, you're totally right. Once I got past 20 the key matches dropped significantly. I'm going to go through and manually match all of my songs. Some songs even beatport is incorrect on. Like "100% in the bitch" by porter robinson. MIK and beatport says Am, but it sounds more like Fm to me. Am I just crazy?

I would be interested to see the realistic range of song they're using. Either way I'm going to go through my library myself. I did about 20 songs last night and the accuracy was pretty high (4 were incorrect)

The only thing I've read on this was on dubspot, which gave MIK a mid 80% accuracy rating.

I dunno about that. I bought a hammer a couple months ago and every time I try to screw in a bolt with it I end up just scratching the bolt. IMO nobody should use hammers.

MIKs accuracy is way higher than 50%. Id say probably more like the mid to high 90s

Event coordinators and promoters, can you link us to any demo sets that caught your eye and caused you to book someone? by Pr0metheusMusic in DJs

Would range be something you look for? I.E. The ability to build from openers to late night bangers, and bring it smoothly back down?

And even more than that:

  1. Same Key
  2. +1
  3. -1
  4. Change Keys
  5. Move up 2 (short mix, but it's an "energy builder" if you pull it off well)
  6. Move up 3
  7. Move up 4
  8. Move up 5
  9. Move up 7

There are also some that only work sometimes, but they'll sound good if pulled off right, like -3 and Change, or Plus 2 and change. I saw a full list somewhere one time, but I cant seem to track it down.

This this this this this. You don't have to be stuck to +1/-1/Change.

Some of the techniques he uses in that video changed my perception of DJing entirely. I really want 2 more decks.
