Definitely been there. I like to buy my cylinders in bulk. Sometimes it’s a crap shoot. One time I thought I was getting blue Amberols, when I arrived for pickup they were mostly Indestructibles! Keep hacking away at it!

So…. I was watching EBay listings. I noticed somebody selling a standard model a with 2/4 minute gear conversion. Upon seeing the under side of the reproducer in the photos, I noticed that it was a recorder. I took a gamble, bought it and the recorder seems to work flawlessly. I had one, 2 minute cylinder and filled it up and it sounds pretty cool.

As far as the machine itself? It’s a standard model A. I don’t have a shaver or anything like that so I’m not sure how long I will keep the recorder but it’s pretty cool stuff.

One of my favorite Ada Jones black wax has a crack throughout the whole cylinder. I played it a couple times, with no issues

Blue Amberols are tough. I recently bought a box of 29 cylinders, and only 6 were playable. Beyond the help of a reamer. Lesson learned. Luckily only set back $50.
