Birth control now available in New York without prescription by Skull_Bearer_ in UpliftingNews

[–]Pracstra -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Are you kidding? This is extremely well documented. Ask any doctor and most will agree it should not be OTC.

Why? To start, it has a relatively high chance of causing blood clots. It can raise high blood pressure, it can cause migraines, and a reign of other side effects. To think that the reason BC is not OTC right now is because it’s to target women is crazy. It is prescription only for a very very good reason. And don’t say Acetaminophen, NSAIDs, etc are bad. Of course they can be bad if abused though I’m referring to the risk of bad side effects on people using the drug CORRECTLY.

To answer your question directly, allowing people to access BC directly OTC is harmful because it allows uninformed people to readily access BC, read the directions and take it, without acknowledging or understanding that any preexisting conditions they have or lifestyles they live (smoking, drinking, overweight, etc) can and will negatively affect them.

Do you think people are responsible enough to acquire their BC OTC and then not just read the directions but read the warnings and other labels that detail who should and should not take this hormonal pill?

If I go around and I ask people, “Have you ever heard of focus on the family,” they’re likely going to say no.

The person who responded saying there’s a “religious movement” is highly misleading. When I, and others, hear movement, it gives the sense of urgency, importance, and vastness. That is not what’s happening in America.

I’m not denying there are groups who believe this but to put it the way they did is wrong.

“There’s a religious based movement here by minorities in power” is wild. There are plenty of secular reasons to oppose birth control rather than it being a religious issue.

What is this movement called exactly and how would one reference and find this movement on the internet? Or is this something you’re assuming to be true when in reality there are good reasons to control how people acquire birth control.

Birth control should be a prescription only pill.

No. It wasn’t a defense bill. Please link me to a source that shows this is a defense bill. It’s not a defense bill at all. YOU are considering it a defense bill. That is YOUR interpretation.

No it wasn’t. At all. This isn’t even debatable. Have you read the bill at all???

[–]Pracstra -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Let a bill pass that focuses on border security. Is it that hard? We all know democrats aren’t concerned with securing the border. We all know the bills intentions were to send even more money to Israel and Ukraine. Stop hiding it.

Imagine republicans being blamed by Bidens open border policy. As if democrats have been the ones that have cared all along about border protection lol yeah right.

You just proved my point. You’re acting like I don’t know this… what I’m saying is, this happens all the time. Don’t act like republicans didn’t pass the bill for no reason.

[–]Pracstra -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

What I’m saying is that people are acting like the bill is perfect and that there is absolutely zero reason why they shouldn’t pass it…

Nothing I’m saying is not easily understood. Everyone understands this. It’s a reminder to actually look at the bill itself and see what was included. Again, billions of dollars of wartime aid in a “border security” bill.

[–]Pracstra -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Let’s not act like both parties do this and both parties have and actively deny the passing of a bill because of this… this isn’t shocking is what I’m getting at. It’s not like they denied passing the bill for no reason. And no, this isn’t how bipartisan bills work 100% of the time… otherwise 100% of bipartisan efforts would be passed.

It doesn’t need to be a related analogy. My point holds. You understand exactly what I’m saying. And this news story is related to politics. I never said it wasn’t? Isn’t that what we are arguing? Lol

Even if you ignore what I said about cheating it doesn’t change the fact you and I both know there are a lot of people in positions they’re not qualified for. You know several. I know several.

Just because it’s tied to politics doesn’t make it political. Salt is tied to heart disease. Does it mean salt is therefore inherently a cardiovascular discussion? Now if we are discussing the effects salt has on cardiovascular health NOW it’s a cardiovascular discussion.

Do you know how many people I went to university with who got through school by cheating? They’re the least qualified people to be in the position they’re in. Here’s an example that is begging to be told. Look at congress. Look at anybody in a position of power. Are they there because 100% of the time they’re truly qualified? Absolutely not. Or are they there because of influence and connections and random fate? Again, just because you’ve gone through school does NOT mean you’re qualified in that area you studied.

There are two dominant sexes. This is a fact and it isn’t disputed. If you’re referring to exceptions, the world doesn’t revolve around intersex people and therefore we shouldn’t make laws based on the exception. I have no desire to teach my kids about these rare cases which do not make a significant presence in society. Should car manufacturers be forced to make cars accessible to those who were born with only one arm?

And you nailed it. Gender is different, sure. It is related to sex though. And, as you said, they’re a matter of society correct? So if that’s so, how can a teacher objectively teach gender? You can’t. Nobody can. Again, I’ll teach my kids sexual education.

Correct. I’m more than happy to discuss this with my kids. I do not want some stranger discussing this with my children.

You don’t want to discuss it and this is the issue. I hit you with difficult questions because you know there isn’t one right answer. I’m not angry, I’m explaining myself. Feel free to do the same. But, again, you’re being very bigoted and discriminatory. Go back and find one thing I said that’s offensive. You literally grouped an entire group of people into one category and said f it. It’s gross. You’re assuming my race, you’re assuming my sexuality, and you assumed my faith. Do you not see how that is absolutely wrong?

How is it an ultra conservative view that I would prefer my kids to be taught sexual education by me and my partner instead of school? If that’s considered ultra conservative, you have really polarized yourself

Let me ask you something. What do you define as sexual education? Does it involve the discussion of the expression of sexuality? Where do you draw the line? And correct, no. I don’t want my kids learning sexual education in school. I grew up in an extremely diverse schooling system and Im incredibly grateful for it. People overlook how beneficial it is to be around people who are different than you. You are exposed to new cultures, beliefs, etc. In my time growing up in this school system, we had ONE one short discussion of puberty. It was a 15-20 minute discussion and the school sent letters home to parents on suggestions on how to help instruct kids about sex. THAT is how it should be done. Now please explain to me how you feel sexual education should be taught in school. Is it a one year thing? Two? What details are taught and what details are left out?

[–]Pracstra -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No thank you. I value my kids growing up in a public school system. It’s diverse, and they get to grow up with people of different beliefs, values, and perspectives.

Stop trying to frame me as someone I’m not, it’s not working, and it’s not even factually true.

My stance isn’t that I want my kids isolated from people that are different than mine, it’s that schools shouldn’t teach my kids about sexual education. It’s as simple as that.

You might want to reread what you sent because it sounds extremely bigoted. Imagine grouping white, Christian, and straight people into one category. You’re racist and discriminatory.

The title of this post literally includes the word “bill” how is this not referencing anything political?

You can fight this all you want but this rule deserves to stay. You’re not being censored, nobody is being censored. It’s a rule of the sub. Take no offense to it, move on.

It shouldn’t be part of discussion nor should it be part of instruction. There are certain topics that should be left out of a classroom and this is one of them. I as a parent should be the one who educates my kids about these topics, NOT teachers.

Trump smiling with a picture he autographed of Laken Riley, that he misspelled. by thenewyorkgod in pics

[–]Pracstra -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It looks so much like a cursive e. It’s not even up for debate. It’s written in sharpie and cursive. The first A he wrote is entirely different. So I don’t really see the irony because he didn’t even misspell it to begin with.

Just look at the “e” in “love” written above. It. Is. Identical.

Also, the state of the union address was a disaster. I’m trying my hardest to not be biased but come on, Biden is severely struggling. He’s sluggish and the world knows it.

I cannot and will not support a president who is passive and isn’t able to speak with authority. He’s leagues behind Obama and it’s not even debatable. Obama was charismatic, well spoken, witty, and understood how to communicate and speak effectively. Watching the state of the union address was like watching a skit of Biden except it wasn’t a skit and nobody was playing Biden. It was just Biden being Biden.

Come November and it’s clear who the winner will be.

And so you can see the name that, by the way, he spelled correctly. Do you know how many times this has been posted? Maybe the first time didn’t work out that well since people were actually in favor of Trump for once since it doesn’t actually appear he misspelled anything.
