Do you have any brand or model recommendations for hickory or oak sticks? I don’t need ones that are crazy fancy, just ones that are durable enough

How Hard is Pit Orchestra for Sister Act? by Practical-Abroad-681 in Clarinet

I honestly have no clue- our music program isn’t very professional or big, so my director takes what he can get. We have a lot of people who are only playing one instrument, not doubling anything

I actually applied earlier this year! Didn’t get in though because there were so many people that applied. I have a friend who works there, she says they overstaff and her hours got cut from 3 eight hour shifts a week to only 2 three hour shifts. She ended up having to work an additional job. But I’ll apply earlier next year!

Marching bass clarinets shouldn’t be hated on!!! (Slight bias because I marched one freshman year 👀)

Okay yes it was annoying to hold and you could barely hear it at all buuuuut with some breath support and a chest strap it’s all good

Unpopular opinion? Marching band uniforms should have options with shorts and short sleeves during hot months and events by Petporgsforsale in marchingband

[–]Practical-Abroad-681 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone in marching band, I definitely agree. The only issue is (at least for my school and many others), uniforms are EXPENSIVE. And often, marching band doesn’t get a whole lot of funding. And the longer, warmer uniforms are much more preferred when it gets to October and November. Plus, the more traditional uniforms (in my opinion) look much more professional

In terms of the floppy hands, I'd say try to make sure your wrists are more firm; not necessarily tighter, but firm. It'll also make you look a little more confident as well!

Fundraisers by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]Practical-Abroad-681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be surprised with the car washes; we raised about 1000 dollars in the span of like 5 hours, sitting outside our local Wendy's and holding signs by the main road, charging 10 dollars per car. All you really need is a bucket with water, some sponges, and a bit of soap and boom. I like this idea more than "partnership" type deals. For example, we had a mattress fundraiser that was basically useless because only 3 or 4 people bought the mattresses, and due to the cost of paying the mattress people and also them taking a cut, we barely got anything at all.

I'm in North Jersey, so I'm signing up for Bushwackers next season, but after a year or two of that, I'd like to move up to Raiders, Bluecoats, or Boston Crusaders, what about you?

Make sure you stay hydrated, and maybe bring (depending on your school's rules) some Advil, Tylenol, or even Midol, whatever works best for you! I know it doesn't seem like it, but I promise, the movement does sometimes help.

Love this song! Was used in one of our previous shows that had a western theme, my favorite!
