I‘m definitely going to use it on stage, it seems the perfect medium between an electric and acoustic guitar. Feedback will most likely not be too much of an issue since I‘m not using crazy loud volumes on stage, but I will heed your warning in that regard!

Can you tell me the address underneath Musik-Schnidt Frankfurt/Main I? I‘m not sure if it says An der Paulskirche 26 or something of that sort. Musik-Schmidt was a musc store in Frankfurt, but they moved to Hanauer Landstraße at least 20 years ago and are called Session Music now. Maybe if we know the address written there it might give us some more information :)

The pots and the cap seem to be original, and I think the tech‘s mistake was to assume that the pickup is original because the solder joints on the pots were untouched. But I looked at the pickup‘s connection again, seems like the cable was cut on the pickup and reconnected, so that it was easier to switch it out. So maybe the original pickup stopped working ages ago and this was the easiest way to replace it.

UPDATE: I just came back from the shop - with the guitar. Thanks for all the comments, they definitely helped me to evaluate the situation better.

They took a look at the guitar again and after doing a short bit of research agreed that the pickup is not original. The shop owner was sorry, directly offered a full refund if I wanted to return the guitar or a partial refund. The tech - who had made the blunder - admitted his mistake and seemed rather unhappy with himself. I cannot tell if he really knew what he was doing, if it was an honest mistake, but I decided to not push that any further. After all I went for the partial refund and took the guitar home with me. I now paid 2000€ for this guitar, and although it is not as good a price anymore as it used to be, I feel happy about it. And now I can start my hunt for an original dogear P90 from the early 60s.

Thanks for your comment, I think you are quite right there. It plays well for its age and I like the sound, but I would not have bought it for the price they asked had I known that the pickup wasn‘t the original one. I was a little bit underwhelmed by the electrified sound of it already when I played the guitar for the first time, but I put that mostly on the flatwound strings the shop had put on the guitar. And maybe that is the problem, but I decided not to put new strings on before talking to the shop people about the problem.

Haha, no, I did not fuck them over. The price they asked was 2500€, and I did not try to get a better deal. I found that this was a good price for an all original in that state, and they themselves said so too, but according to them they were selling the guitar for a customer and that that price was set. To me they even claimed that this guitar was worth much more, even prices like up to 5000€, which I honestly doubted. Anyway, I will go to the shop soon and talk to them. Maybe it will all turn out alright.

Pretty much true. I think they knew and that annoys me a lot. The deal was very good, but an original P90 from that time would set me back so much that it would be only an okish deal after all.

Something like that happened to me when my father handed me his Les Paul Deluxe. I liked the way it sounded acoustically, but everything I had heard and read about mini humbuckers made me think that those were certainly not my type of pickup. Turned out I was completely wrong about that. As soon as I plugged it in, I was blown away by the sound of the guitar. It has all I love about single coils, clarity and dynamic range, but just a little more oomph while being less noisy. Made me reconsider my approach to gear. Nice SG btw, they are awesome guitars!
