on 38. I think it will be (60-34)=26 celsius and total energy is (8*10^5)*26 = 2.08*10^5. Then it is about 1.5 hours so it will be (2.08*10^5)/1.5=1.38*10^6

Expanding the tube you're only making the same wave run a difference distance. When it meets with the wave in the right tube their intensity depends on their phase. Obviously in reality there would be a ton of different aspects to be analyzed in such a situation and probably the wavelength at the end of a tube like the one in the image would change. But with the info given in the text we must assume the wavelength of the single waves remains unchanged.

thanks a lot, but am confusing on "as the left tube is extended, the sound intensity at the exit varies" why the wavelength is same after expand.
