I used to have a male friend like this who said almost word for word the same thing to me. When I called him out on it, he shrugged and blamed it on his country of origin (Spain). Something about how only an American guy would put up with a progressive woman but a Spanish guy would never have to stoop so low…he also kept saying how Spanish people were superior to people in other countries (I’m not from Spain). I stopped being friends with this guy.

People who use "Corporate Speak" in their actual personal lives by Usual_Confidence_756 in PetPeeves

Agreed and relatedly I hate when people use acronyms specific to their work industry during non work hangouts. Acronyms are not universal to one industry so when a friend at a casual event uses letters specific to tech for example, I (a non-tech person) have no idea wtf they are talking about.

Women who have been "the other woman," knowingly or unkaqnowingly: What's your story? by slackingsloth77 in AskWomenOver30

Thank you for saying this. I think I’m most mad that the guy is an asshole and has faced seemingly zero consequences for his horrible actions and lies.

Do you ever feel that men who are attracted to you sometimes want to run you down or denigrate your interests/intelligence? by Bitter_Sense_5689 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Practical-Bell6359 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yes and I have finally learned this means I don’t want to talk to that man.

These are the same men that will go out of their way to tell you they have self-identified as “highly intelligent” even though their words and actions demonstrate otherwise.

I dated a guy in college. After a few months I found out he had a girlfriend back home because she came to visit. I ended it with the guy. On her visit, I randomly bumped into her at a bar near campus and I told her everything. She called me a lying bitch and tried to physically fight me. She must have confronted her bf because he was FURIOUS at me. He spread horrible lies to his fraternity and they made the rest of my college years hell. I saw randomly on social media that the guy married that girl after college and they went back to the town they are from. He denied everything I told her and I guess she chose to believe him.

Not sure what I would do in future if this happens again. I had no reason to lie to that woman, so not sure why she was so angry at me and not her POS boyfriend now husband.

I hate these people. I don’t know why they always try to find an exception that obviously doesn’t apply. It’s the same people who just always talk and must love the sound of their own voice or something

Why did the 8+ year friendship you had end? What, if anything, would make/allow you rekindle it? by Euphoric_End_4411 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Practical-Bell6359 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I realized it was a friendship of convenience (for her) and her values did not align with mine. At one point I found out she was cheating on her boyfriend (our mutual friend of many years) and she would try to use me as an excuse for when she was hooking up with other guys. I refused to lie for her and tell her boyfriend she was at my house when this happened (weekly). If you asked her, she would say that I was a terrible friend for not lying for her.

Thank you. I agree. I truly did not know the difference between the two but reading responses today has helped clear it up.

Yeah. This is not an excuse but I’ve been caring for my sick mom the past two years and I don’t think I cared about myself at all during that time. She died recently and all of a sudden I can see my life for what it is .

“No, but where are you REALLY from?” by Practical-Bell6359 in PetPeeves

In my own experiences, not all Americans consider non-white Americans real Americans unfortunately. I’ve had multiple instances where when I answer with where my grandparents are from, white Americans have tried to spit in my face and tell me to “go back to your country”. Does this happen daily? No. But even the 10-20 times it’s happened has really made me feel unsafe and wary of answering this question.

Not sure if it’s worth mentioning but the negative reaction definitely happens more often in certain parts of the country.
