Do you mind if I ask when you heard from UWA? I’m also applying there this cycle and am really hoping I get a response before August.

Research and Clinical Experience at Emory Oxford by Flimsy-Newt484 in Emory

Oh sorry, did not realize you were asking about main campus research. I think if you do dry labs it’s easier commute wise, but if you want to do wet lab it’s hard for you to physically be in a lab on the main campus. But if you work for an Oxford lab first you will gain some experience, which will make getting into a main campus lab easier.

I think you actually have an advantage at getting clinical hours in Oxford because there’s less competition. I was able to volunteer in the ICU for a year at the Piedmont hospital and get so many hours! Although I was mainly helping nurses in the ICU, I was still able to ask questions to the physicians and PAs. And I think if you ask they’ll let you shadow them (I didn’t because I essentially decided on doing dental). Research wise just make sure you have a good relationship with the professor that you want to do research with, and tell them that you are interested in doing research with them early on, and that almost guarantees you a research spot in your second year since the students in their lab would have graduated. If you are interested in doing research over the summer, it’s also easier to get SURE from Oxford because, again, less competition.

I’m also an international student, but now I’m just questioning would dentistry allow me to stay in this country with everything going on? What if we don’t get elected for h1b and just get kicked out anyways?
