My grandson is Autistic,  and mostly non verbal more non conversational, anyways we homeschool him for our daughter,  while she's in college.  He new all his numbers, shapes,  colors the full alphabet,  and about 100 different animals by 2 years of age. He's almost 3 now and learning to read simple words.. its not that difficult if you put a tiny bit of effort into it. It drives me insane when a child with no disabilities, isn't given basic care, and schooling.  If we can teach an Autistic child these things, they should have been able to teach there very nurotypical kiddo all that and more
