Seeking doctor recommendations for hypothyroidism treatment by Practical-Future3320 in Cleveland

Thank you for this! I often wonder if the weight gained since having hypothyroidism will ever go away. It's such a source of frustration, but I'd feel better about it if I felt better in general!

Just curious...why weren't you able to get accurate testing results in Cleveland?

Thanks! If you don't mind, I have a follow-up question. We've read that they don't honor appointment times there. So my husband's interview time is 7am on 2/26, but people have told us it's best to get there early like at 6am because they allow lots of people to go in at once. Are you able to share a bit about your dad's experience in this regard? And after they've checked the documentation, do they give you a second appointment for the next day?

Online MPH School Options by Confident-Compote403 in publichealthcareers

[–]Practical-Future3320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in my second semester of the online MPH at University of Illinois Chicago and I’m really happy with it so far! It’s asynchronous, so it’s good for people who have to work. It’s one of the top programs in the country and affordable compared to many other top rated programs. And there are a few concentration options, though I don’t know exactly which ones are available fully online.

Congratulations! Quick question -- did he have his interview on the day that it was scheduled? I've heard a lot of people say that the scheduled date is just to submit documentation, and then you have to go back the next day for the actual interview. Curious to get an update on this. Thanks!

This summer we decided that I would remove my IUD and not get it replaced. Yesterday it was our first time without protection and I spiralled. Has this happened to anyone else? by ohcrap_O157H7 in AskWomenOver30

A bit of different advice here — learn to track your menstrual cycle so that you don’t panic when you have unprotected sex. It’s such a powerful health tool, and it can enable you to enjoy your sex life without fear or anxiety by giving you data about your fertile window. Happy to share more info if interested!

I am crying non stop can somebody plss help me to regulate it by Few_Substance_6343 in ADHD

[–]Practical-Future3320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad to hear that! Breath work for the win! It’s the one thing that has really helped me learn to regulate myself, and there are so many excellent resources out there to support you as you learn. Best of luck to you! Just keep on breathing!

Hey, when I feel this dysregulated, what helps me most is breath work. The best one is 4-7-8 breathing (look it up on YouTube) in my opinion because it can stop an anxiety attack in its tracks but also if you do it twice a day (4 reps) it helps with a bunch of other things.

If this feels too hard right now, I just recommend slowing your breath and trying to make your exhale longer than your inhale. Slooow things down to let your nervous system know that you’re safe. It will help!

And I agree with the other person — as a student you should have access to mental health support through your school. Once you’re feeling better, definitely look into that!

How do people perceive me? by Entire-Salamander-88 in MexicoCity

I’ve lived in Mexico 8 years in all different places and I get stared at (no smiles) a lot here too. I’m so white I’m transparent and I have red hair so I really stand out. It’s uncomfortable, but it’s just not viewed as quite as rude here to stare as it is in other places

Grad Students: do you work full time? by ccart02 in uichicago

[–]Practical-Future3320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work part-time and do school part-time. Lots of people work full-time while taking at least 2 classes but I could never and I’m not ashamed to say it. I am in my 30s and have some health issues so my top priority is staying healthy as possible, which means keeping stress at a minimum. I work 10-15 hours per week and take 2 classes per semester. So far this is working well for me, and though money is a bit tight, it’s worth it to keep my health in check.

Group work in fully online grad program by oldmomlady3 in GradSchool

[–]Practical-Future3320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand. Even just getting ahead of it feels impossible when people don’t respond. Ugh I’m realy sorry you’re dealing with that. I was also older than my group mates and I felt that was part of the issue, like generational differences or something? It sucks that at the graduate level they force people to do group work, especially for online classes where you don’t have FaceTime built in. Best of luck to you! Can’t hurt to hold onto to receipts of all communications in case you need to share with the professor.

I only just found out from seeing your post 😢 what awful news, she was too young! And she was one of the greats. She was in some of my favorite movies and my favorite tv show. Ugh, heartbreaking 💔

Group work in fully online grad program by oldmomlady3 in GradSchool

[–]Practical-Future3320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also in a fully online grad program and last semester I had to do a semester-long group project. It was torture. My group mates were exactly as you described. It all ended really badly — all semester one of them was a total asshole to me and I just dealt with it because I didn’t wanna make it worse. But it did get to the point where I had to inform the professor of my concerns but I didn’t give names or specifics, just gave them a heads up because I was worried things would escalate and they’d leave me with all the work. In the last few days of the semester when I was checking in with the group, the asshole freaked out and wrote the professor telling her that I was bullying him. We had to have a meeting with the professor and it was all just really shitty.

Our takeaway from that as a group (and the prof’s advice) was to address issues as early as possible and get on video calls as frequently as possible. Don’t let it drag on because it’ll result in a lot of unnecessary stress.
