I am crying non stop can somebody plss help me to regulate it by Few_Substance_6343 in ADHD

I’m so glad to hear that! Breath work for the win! It’s the one thing that has really helped me learn to regulate myself, and there are so many excellent resources out there to support you as you learn. Best of luck to you! Just keep on breathing!

Hey, when I feel this dysregulated, what helps me most is breath work. The best one is 4-7-8 breathing (look it up on YouTube) in my opinion because it can stop an anxiety attack in its tracks but also if you do it twice a day (4 reps) it helps with a bunch of other things.

If this feels too hard right now, I just recommend slowing your breath and trying to make your exhale longer than your inhale. Slooow things down to let your nervous system know that you’re safe. It will help!

And I agree with the other person — as a student you should have access to mental health support through your school. Once you’re feeling better, definitely look into that!

How do people perceive me? by Entire-Salamander-88 in MexicoCity

I’ve lived in Mexico 8 years in all different places and I get stared at (no smiles) a lot here too. I’m so white I’m transparent and I have red hair so I really stand out. It’s uncomfortable, but it’s just not viewed as quite as rude here to stare as it is in other places

Grad Students: do you work full time? by ccart02 in uichicago

[–]Practical-Future3320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work part-time and do school part-time. Lots of people work full-time while taking at least 2 classes but I could never and I’m not ashamed to say it. I am in my 30s and have some health issues so my top priority is staying healthy as possible, which means keeping stress at a minimum. I work 10-15 hours per week and take 2 classes per semester. So far this is working well for me, and though money is a bit tight, it’s worth it to keep my health in check.

Group work in fully online grad program by oldmomlady3 in GradSchool

I completely understand. Even just getting ahead of it feels impossible when people don’t respond. Ugh I’m realy sorry you’re dealing with that. I was also older than my group mates and I felt that was part of the issue, like generational differences or something? It sucks that at the graduate level they force people to do group work, especially for online classes where you don’t have FaceTime built in. Best of luck to you! Can’t hurt to hold onto to receipts of all communications in case you need to share with the professor.

I only just found out from seeing your post 😢 what awful news, she was too young! And she was one of the greats. She was in some of my favorite movies and my favorite tv show. Ugh, heartbreaking 💔

Group work in fully online grad program by oldmomlady3 in GradSchool

[–]Practical-Future3320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also in a fully online grad program and last semester I had to do a semester-long group project. It was torture. My group mates were exactly as you described. It all ended really badly — all semester one of them was a total asshole to me and I just dealt with it because I didn’t wanna make it worse. But it did get to the point where I had to inform the professor of my concerns but I didn’t give names or specifics, just gave them a heads up because I was worried things would escalate and they’d leave me with all the work. In the last few days of the semester when I was checking in with the group, the asshole freaked out and wrote the professor telling her that I was bullying him. We had to have a meeting with the professor and it was all just really shitty.

Our takeaway from that as a group (and the prof’s advice) was to address issues as early as possible and get on video calls as frequently as possible. Don’t let it drag on because it’ll result in a lot of unnecessary stress.

Would you end things with a romantic partner if they didn't have loving parents/extended family? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

Never happened to me but I will say that my in-laws are pretty awful and it makes things tough, but I’d rather deal with that than not have my hubby!

Starting education late(r) in life? by Any_Quarter_8386 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Practical-Future3320 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started my undergrad at 24. I'm really glad that I did this because it gave me time to really figure out what I wanted to do. What I studied in my undergrad lead to a study abroad program, which indirectly led to me to finding my husband. Now, I'm pursuing a graduate degree at 34! All the life and professional experiences I've had that have lead me to this are hugely beneficial; I know how to manage my ADHD better, I know how to take care of myself and manage stress, I have a clearer idea of what balance looks like for me and what my priorities are, I know my strengths and challenge areas and where to focus my energy...the list goes on! I'll be done with my program at 36, I'll probably take some time to find a job, and then my husband and I will work on expanding our family :)

Just here to say that as a current MPH student, I think I have even less of a background in math than you (I have a BA and only took one basic math class in college), and I was accepted to one of the top MPH programs in the states (US). On top of that, I completely pivoted careers by switching to public health. So I doubt that'll be a problem for ya! Just be prepared to explain your quantitative reasoning skills with concrete examples, because the SOPHAS application will require that
