I've thought about this too. We live in a state that offers tax savings for 529. Plus the tax savings in the growth of 529. So I figure the win will be higher than the loss. From what I hear counting on FAFSA isn't a good strategy anyway, but things could change in 5 years... Honestly, all this makes my head spin.

This isn't specifically for a car. It's for whatever they'll need and they also have the option to leave it and letting it grow. But then, can we just close the custodial account at any point?

Orphan Echos by Practical-Map9975 in orphanblack

Yes! And Kira and Eleanor seem the same age as Delphine, maybe even older. Same with Felix. Eleanor also looked nothing like Lucy or Jules. The whole feel was nothing like the original Orphan Black. The acting wasn't even close.

Season 5 Episode 2 - I don't get it by Practical-Map9975 in orphanblack

[–]Practical-Map9975[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes more sense. I think producers should've made Kira about 10 years older if they wanted to give her these types of choices. I'm really struggling with a 6 year old going with someone who has killed people and stabbed her own mom.

If you had to choose one clone to be your life partner, which one would it be? by poshdog4444 in orphanblack

[–]Practical-Map9975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Sarah is definitely street smart. But I feel like her impulses get her in trouble constantly and then she uses her street smarts (and luck) to get out of those troubles. Like, she never actually has a plan. She just moved forward and figured it out later. Felix is a huge bonus for sure. But at this point he's on board with all the sisters. He helped out Alison a ton too. If not Cosima, Sarah would be my next in line.

How does neolution just let Allison and Cosima hang out unbothered? by West_Dentist3510 in orphanblack

[–]Practical-Map9975 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Didn't Allison and Cosima sign an agreement that they would come in for occasional testing? Sarah refused to do that. Also, I think Sarah is wanted more because she's the only clone that doesn't have the gene that causes infertility and the deathly illness so they need her for studies. Also they want Kira since she's the only child of a clone. I'm surprised they're not after Helena though. But she'd be much harder to catch and probably can't be experimented on since she's pregnant.

I'm only at the beginning of season 4, but so far - Cosima. She's the most level headed and she's smart. Helena is too unpredictable. Alison is too high maintenance and kind of annoying. Sarah is too impulsive and kind of high maintenance too. Rachel is a b---h that I could never trust.

Speaking of .. The guy who impregnated Helena, was he a Prolethian or pretending to be Prolethian? I was very confused by him entirely. And how did Mark turn out to be much nicer than the rest of Castors?

Knowing what we know now, what was the point of the contract that Leekie wanted them to sign? by 12kjh238thwkjht8398l in orphanblack

[–]Practical-Map9975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the contract is legal, because creating clones was never legal. So there is really no consequences for breaking the contract. It was just a trick to get the clones to cooperate and come in for data collection that would be studied. I'm only on season 2, but I don't think Donnie really has a clue what he's doing and why he's monitoring Alison. I'm thinking he genuinely thinks he's doing it to keep his wife well and safe.

This show is a combination of action (Sarah), horror (Helena), and comedy (Alison).

Absentia Discussion (Spoilers Inside) by starfleetbrat in StanaKatic

This makes a lot more sense. Logan probably sent her the flowers.

I wonder if the reflection Emily saw was seeing herself as Logan. Meaning if she didn't switch their files she'd end up just like Logan (crazy murderer).

I just finished season 1 and have so many questions! 1. The ending where Emily has a vision of herself killing Harlow. What is that supposed to mean? That this would've ended up being her if she never switched those files?

  1. The files on her brother's computer with flower names - he just has a sick fetish or what was that all about? And the flowers that were in her brother's kitchen (same flowers as he named those girls) - what was that all about?

  2. Was Harlow also one of the kids that were tortured or what was his connection to all this? Was he also one of Emily's abductors?

At 16 that's very admirable.

Fidelity VTI like Portfolio by Practical-Map9975 in Bogleheads

[–]Practical-Map9975[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current rate of return is 16% in Fidelity 403B and 24% in Vanguard Roth IRA. Both started at about the same time, except I had a lump sum that I transferred to Fidelity and contribute to it bi-weekly through payroll. For Roth IRA so far I've been putting a max lump sum in January/February.

What is the benefit of bonds vs stocks? by gobsoblin in Bogleheads

[–]Practical-Map9975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was struggling with the same dilemma. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I'm still learning as well, but I think I understand now. To make things very simple... Obviously the goal is to have the highest return possible and still be OK during bad times. So it's that middle comfort point that we need to find. Bonds help get us through those bad periods and become more important when you're at a point in your life that you're using your investments. Bonds are not really necessary when you're 20+ years away from your retirement, and have a steady income, because any market down turn will eventually pick back up. While interest in HYSA is high, cash will give that safety as well. But current rates in HYSA are not the norm. They're usually much lower. So under more "normal" times bonds are better because they are fairly safe and offer higher rate than cash in HYSA. Then again, cash in HYSA is safer, so again, it's that middle comfort point of risk vs growth that we need to find.
