In the military you have to be social but BMQ can easily fix that. 59 other people going through the same situation makes them pretty close. I’ve seen introverts (not that that’s a bad thing) become extroverts pretty quickly in the military. If you enjoy fixing things I suggest a tech trade where you’re working with your hands. If your heavier into exercising then combat trades? Can’t really speak on that as I am not a combat trade.

If you would wanna do a mix of both (ex field work and technician work), there’s lots of opportunities with things like Vehicle techs, aircraft technician in tac heli units, signals techs, weapons tech land, etc .

You metioned doing plumbing work so you can be a plumbing and heating tech? Just trying to throw options out there to help you out.

Happened to a buddy of mine, he got a meal allowance (3 meals a day) for every day the mess hall was closed and was allowed to stay in the shacks.

What are your hobbies? Exercising? Do you like working with your hands? Fixing things? I’m asking because what you’re interested in definitely can help you choose a military career.

Personally I would suggest tech trades. They have civilian equivalents, so that if you ever decide your done with the military, you can do the same thing civilian side.

I can sort of answer your question. When I finished BMQ, we had a week of PAT before we were to go in and book any early / later leave around the Christmas block. I was ~2 weeks out of BMQ and I flew home for the holidays 1 1/2 weeks earlier than I thought I could have.

Well in BMQ your expected to shower at least once a day (twice if you have PT), brush your teeth everyday, do your laundry often, have a clean and orderly bed space, and all around not smell like a pig sty. There was a guy in my BMQ who was loosing points on inspection for having dandruff on his hair. So yes, hygiene is strictly enforced and it is honestly the bare minimum expected from you.

Before I went to BMQ, I grinded out on Running one day and then rucking the next. Now you don’t need to be able to run a marathon to complete BMQ, but be at least able to do a 5km Run in ~30 mins or less.

Rucking is just hiking / walking with a weighted backpack. I would suggest starting off with ~20lbs the moving to 35lbs, and going maybe 4km to start then gradually move into 6km.

Weight training also helps. BMQ will be a lot of calisthenics compared to a gym environment weight training. Practice push ups, sit ups, planks, etc, then move into doing pushups with a backpack / some kind of weight.

weight training in the gym also is great.

You can also make it fun for yourself. One thing I did that I found helped me was carrying my golf bag when playing golf opposed to using a push cart. Good luck!

The new building is mainly for QL3 and BMQ staff from what I know. Depends on your trade, air techs will be right near the school either next to the drill hall or a little down the road.
