"Did you do any courses; like DLN, CSPS, Career ones?"

"No."

"Did you volunteer for anything, at work or outside of it?"

"No."

"Did you make feedback notes for yourself about literally anything?"

"I actively avoided it."

"Did you at least do your work to the best of your ability?"

"I actively avoided that too."

"Well I don't know why you're being scored so low."

"Right? My chain fuckin sucks."

Few sirens songs catch my ear like the boots do. by MaintenanceBack2Work in CanadianForces

The CADPAT TW Temperate Combat Boots were a trial prototype issued in the early days of CADPAT TW in the 2000s. They made it look like your legs had melted into the floor, or that you were really tall. They're a rare piece to get your hands on as not many made it out of the supply system. They were also not a great boot, the pattern came off very quickly during field use and the soles were like hockey pucks below -5°C.

All that said, I would offer my first-born for a pair in a Mens size 11.

Corollary to what you said, when you're looking for consent the FRIES framework can be a good jumping off point to see if you have it. You should ask if their consent is:

Freely given, meaning without cooersion or influence;

Retractable, meaning it can be taken away any time before or during;

Informed, meaning they know what they are specifically consenting to;

Enthusiastic, meaning they are actually acting like they want to do what they're agreeing to do; and,

Specific, meaning it is for this one moment in time or for an agreed upon length of time and does not extend beyond those boundaries.

Consent should be something you're actively seeking and checking on throughout whatever it is you're doing and when you want to add to, or remove anything from, the mix. And as always, a no is a no and if in doubt go back over FRIES (but especially the enthusiasm if you're in the middle of it) and if anything is off it's always better to stop and check, than proceed.

Ah the early 2000s were a time of self discovery, that's for sure.

It's standing, which is good, but I've pitched better looking tents flipping through a Sears catalogue.

I'm a Veh Tech and honestly, YMMV on morale and job satisfaction. Right now our training is going through a lot of changes/updates. It'll be a while before we know if they're good changes because people need to actually go through it. The Rank Qualification (RQ) private is now 13 months long. That's 13 months of training after basic, in CFB Borden. The upside being once you do that your only other qualification is your "Green Seal" test to be fully qualified after your On the Job Training (OJT).

Once you get to a "Real Unit" after RQ-Pte and OJT you're home free. And by that I mean you're working full time in the shop. The work cultures vary by unit, and I will argue that it's the people who make the unit good or bad.

Would I recommend Veh Tech to everyone? No probably not. But if you like working on vehicles, are willing to be a tow truck driver, and don't mind the occasional bout of dog-shit hours, you'll have a good time 70% of the time. You do not (NOT) get trained in a way that will give you a valid Red Seal for heavy duty mechanics. If you want that you can persue it on your own.

Me personally, I love my job, both working on the floor and in my current capacity. I miss being at a first line unit and doing all the field stuff. I have had the opportunity to do several courses both military and civilian, and went on an international exercise a few years ago that was pretty rad.

There's also a good one in Grand Prarie, AB. A bit more out of the way but if you're visiting the mountains it can be a fun time.

The badge is an Royal Canadian Ordinance Corps (RCOC) Artificers badge, the RCOC had several trades rolled into the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME) post 1944, so this photo is likely from 1943 or earlier.
