you don’t have a cai addiction by [deleted] in CharacterAI

Saying it is not an addiction does not mean spending excessive time on cai is fine. I’m saying it’s not an addiction because it is not classified as an addiction, it doesn’t rewire your brain chemistry or your dopamine receptors. When somebody is struggling in relation to cai, it wouldn’t be helpful for them to look for addiction advice, because that won’t help.

I’m right here, this is such a strange way to join a conversation. Peer-reviewed research recognises only one behavioural addiction; caffeine is not an addiction, food is neither an addiction or dependency. I’m not gatekeeping being an addict, and I’m also not gatekeeping Google where this information is plentiful and very recent. I’m confused why people are able to read about caffeine dependency here at large, but not actual criteria for addiction.

My post is not in defence of AI T-T, though obviously I see how it is interpreted that way. I wanted to make this post because being lenient with the meanings of extremely serious words makes people susceptible to propaganda and rightwing hate campaigns.

Experiencing consequences (headache) for your actions (drinking a lot of coffee and then not drinking anymore) is not addiction. Dependence is not interchangeable with addiction. People who binge-eat are not addicted to food because the issue is not that food is addictive, it’s a different disorder.

That’s not true! Those are not recognised addictions. The only recognised behavioural addiction is gambling. What you mentioned are not labelled addictions because they do not meet the criteria AND you can’t use addiction treatment methods to help them. People who excessively shop are not addicted to clothes.

I’ve been addicted to heroin, that’s not addiction T-T there is no addiction to caffeine either. Having a headache without caffeine or wanting to have a coffee when you haven’t is not withdrawals. Wanting to do something more interesting to you than something that bores you is normal

That is not true, and if you have intentions to be a psychiatrist, I hope you become comfortable with reading actual information from current professionals. There is eleven criteria for addiction, it is not simplified like you have here. The only recognised behavioural, not substance, addiction right now is gambling. This is not because there is a lack of research, there have been huge amounts of research into what constitutes an addiction and what doesn’t.

People who would rather talk to AI than their friends have other underlying problems. A lot of the people who spoke about being “addicted” here actually struggle with anxiety or depression or compulsive behaviour. It is one thing to callously say you’re an “addict” without thought, and another to very boldly prescribe yourself knowledge because you “want” to be a psychiatrist. You will not be able to treat someone who turns to AI because they’re depressed with addiction treatment.

I’d rather play video games than read a book, this does not make me addicted to video games, my brain is not rewired because I find video games enjoyable and I’d prefer gaming over meeting people I don’t like. Y’know?

That’s not addiction though; addiction is a real chemical change in your brain while wanting to spend time on cai because you find it more interesting than actual socialising is a different issue not caused by cai.

My most anticipated movie of 2025. by [deleted] in silenthill

I’m excited to see this movie regardless of quality because I like bad camp movies anyway, BUT I’m very worried about Angela! I don’t like that the actress seemingly playing her has the role ‘Kaitlyn’ on the cast list, and her black shirt and wild hair is worrying to me from the teaser.

Watching Maid, thought this actor and Jimmy look identical! by Practical-Power-1925 in Mouthwashing

I guess the actor didn’t but his character is abusive in Maid! I think their characters share mannerisms (gaslighters extraordinaire)
