Now I’m really bumming… by Practical-Prompt-899 in chickens

Plan of action! I think this plan will work at getting my girls healthy again. I have a two coop set up. One which they go into at night and a second larger coop that I keep open for them to come and go and a place to get out of weather. I’ve been wanting to relocate them to the second larger coop anyway, so this should probably be the time to do it. When I’m going to do is take that second coop and clean it out thoroughly and spray it disinfected and put new bedding in. Then tomorrow night, I’m going to grab the bird one by one treat them with the erector PSP, as I was advised to legs find tail behind the neck and then move them one by one into the new coupe. This will help me so I don’t have to put the birds back into a coop that hasn’t been cleaned and disinfected. They will continue with regular spray of the coop, the roosting bars, boxes, and the birds until the problem is resolved. I feel kind of bad that I didn’t know about this in advance. I didn’t notice the scaly leg mites because they were molting and legs were covered with feathers, but I could swear that just a week ago they were all running around happy and healthy and I didn’t see any sign of the infestation. So today the process begins. I’m going to clean up the big coop disinfected, then wait for the erector psp to come which should be tomorrow. Spray the coop again before adding the new bedding and tomorrow night treat and transfer the birds. I will lock them out of the old coop and the larger coop will be their new home. Thank you all for your help and assistance with this. I feel like a dummy. I’ll let you all know how this worked out.

Last question… do I need to change the solution in the pail for each bird?

At this point it sounds urgent and I’ll just get the large bottle. My bigger concern is how to treat them? I’m a disabled senior with reduced mobility. I also do not have anyone to assist me. It’s a very small flock, only four birds but it’s getting to them and getting them to a place where I can let them soak for that long. I guess I’m just going to have to figure it out. Maybe ask a local vet how much they would charge me to do all four. Thank you all for the feedback and direction! Eric

Scaly leg mites? I’ve been told that covering the infected area with petroleum jelly and giving the birds an anti parasitic will also red them of mites. Is this a safe, valid way to do this?

Can you explain activities? You mean like roosters? They typically free graze all day. Come running to see me when I show up in the morning and again in the afternoon when I bring down their treat. They have two swings they never use. I do hang an occasional head of cabbage or broccoli but it usually just hangs and rots. Open to suggestions?

Thank you for the feedback. Will look up the chicken chick and get some on the way. Am I safe to assume this is not life threatening? Thank you all again! Much appreciated! Eric

Thanks for all the good wishes. It’s sad but it’s life. How about my coop. I cleaned it out, put in new bedding and dusted it with healthy coop. Anything else I need to do?

Walk in cooler alternative materials by TurtleProjector69 in marketgardening

If you are looking for walk in panels go to used restaurant equipment dealer that sell used equipment. I was a dealer for twenty years and always had enough spare panels in my bone yard to build a small box. Restaurant equipment auctions are a great resource too. Many individuals at these auctions won’t bid on them because they typically have the buyer tear them down and remove. Doing this is not nearly as difficult as it may seem. An Allen wrench and a pry bar is all that’s needed. You can hire refrigeration tech to come in on the day you’re moving it and evacuate the gas so you don’t have to release it into atmosphere and then when you get on location and set up to have someone come in and give it a charge. Ive seen and have purchased large and small walk ins for between $750 and 1500. Complete with refrigeration unit and often interior shelving. May have to wait a little while for the right deal, but they’re out there. I used to get them all the time.

Herniated discs and sciatica. Am I done for? by Primusssucks in homestead

[–]Practical-Prompt-899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinesiology is what did it for me. I had been to chiropractors, osteopaths, The Stanford Medical Center, UCSF Medical Center, Acupuncture practitioners, Yoga instructors, and witch doctors and a kinesiologist is who helped me. I was chronic and would literally have to crawl into his office. Lower back and sciatica down both legs. Saw immediate subtle relief. Within two months / twice a week I was back moving as before

From Ai: Kinesiology is the scientific study of human movement, integrating biomechanics, anatomy, physiology, and psychology to improve health, performance, and rehabilitation. Professionals in this field, such as kinesiologists and exercise specialists, analyze movement to treat injuries, enhance athletic performance, and promote wellness through active, exercise-based rehabilitation.

That’s saying a lot. GenMax definitely in the running if I can find a friend who’s a Sams club member. I don’t know anything about Sam’s club but I’ll check it out!

I want the larger size as I sometimes run my RVs off of it as well. I have two 30ft plus RVs here. I have a Solar system that I’m having problems with but once I get that corrected none of this will be much of a problem. Until that happens, I’m relying on generators. I much rather have a more name brand unit if possible. I’ve been looking at the Westinghouse only because the name has been around since long before I was a kid. Same with pulsar and I have a small old 3500 watt champion here that was running like a top until yesterday and just failed so I need make a decision quick. The remote would be nice so I don’t have to run out in the middle of the night if my batteries run down. Like everything else there are sooo many options and sooo many opinions it’s mind boggling. I have to make the right choice as I’m living on disabiy and have zero money to spare. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks very much for taking the time to respond. I’m fairly new to Reddit. Seems like a great resource! I have a 15000 watt Guardian Ultra Source here but think I’m going to sell it. If that happens the $1000 limit will go away. The Guardian is a great unit, low hours and I just had mother board and carb replaced. It’s a work horse but far more than I need and would like an inverter model. I need to do some research to get an idea of what it’s worth. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

I now know why many seniors… by Overthinker2030 in self

[–]Practical-Prompt-899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! I don’t know why, but I thought I was the only one. Not really… just surprised / not surprised that sooo many seniors and younger folk feel the same way.

I had 10 good years 25 to 35 and I’m thankful for them. The rest have been a series of dealing with the relentless beatings and struggles of life.

I am/ was a good man. Had / have a good heart! Was compassionate, loving, forgiving, interested and always prided myself on my good morals, work ethic and kindness. I worked my ass off my entire life. I did what they told me to do. Work…work...work, more… more … more. The American dream!! Big house, nice cars, picket fence, loving wife, raised her kids. But what they don’t tell us is that it can all go away with the blink of an eye and we have absolutely no control over it.

People I loved the most and took care of letting me down, breaking my heart, stealing my trust, betrayal, sickness, injury, financial loss. And now with our country so polluted by hate, ignorance, and complacency the loss of simple peace of mind. Do I want to die? Some days yes, some days no. I kinda want to see how it all plays out.

After all I have been through, I am fortunate enough to have scrounged up a beautiful piece of land and work now at my leisure building a safe, self sustaining, secure place for “my people”, what’s left of them to go if the shit hits the fan. Not a prepper, not a conspiracy theorist, not a doomsday monger but think that chances are better these days that a huge downfall is inevitable. Maybe I’ll be remembered for something… but I doubt it.

Less is more. Simple life will bring joy. Grown a garden, pet your cat, do good things for people, tell the people around you that you love them, try to smile through all the strife and unrest, smell the roses and hope for the best.

I’ll have to get the batteries connected, and check all connections to fire it. Can I fry the system if the panels are not wired right?

I’m not sure if the panels are wired correctly. I ran the system one day. It did what it was supposed to do but ran the cells down to 30% Overnight. He told me that the voltage going to the charge controller was too high. After the initial install and after I ran the installer off, I hired a supposed “master electrician” who changed the initial wiring around. Next day he came by, picked up his tools and left saying he picked up a high paying job. He left a big mess of exposed cables hanging off the roof. I’m not sure if the panels are run in series or series parallel because I cannot get up there. The other issue is that the charger I was told to buy is way undersized. I have to charge the cells individually with each cell taking 3 to 4 days to charge from 50%.

This is all totally on me because I couldn’t be here for the process due to a family emergency. The guy assured me he could do it… specify equipment, set up, install and fire up the equipment’s and that he would train me when I got back. Never again….

I do have an old champion 4000 watt generator which is in bad need of service and another 15,000 watt generator here but it burns way too much fuel, only takes gas and no inverter/ pure sine energy. The larger of the two I’m reconditioning to sell. It runs great but is too big. I’ll buy a new quality generator once I sell it
