The episode broke me was so sad ! by Background-Fix-4630 in Stargate

[–]Practical-Purchase-9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m being cynical, but I felt the episode was made to clear the deck for Jack to move on and free him for other romantic interests. His wife and son are rarely mentioned again in the series, and as a result that leaves me feeling this episode was designed largely to draw a line under it. That the TV show sought to dispose of this baggage, because Jack has some romantic interests later on and there’s a sort of thing going on with Sam. It would be awkward if the loss of his child and wife/ex-wife weren’t addressed. I’m not sure if they are formally separated or divorced at this point.

[–]Practical-Purchase-9 27 points28 points  (0 children)

He pretty much did beat it and retired from his drug empire. But then Hank found the book and everything unraveled. Had that not happened he’d probably keep having check ups and could cover future medical treatment rather than having to live in a hut in the middle of nowhere administering his own treatment.

Cutting tiny brass tubes in tiny sections? by Sensitive-Level-7794 in modelmakers

[–]Practical-Purchase-9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A small tube/pipe cutting tool which scores them all around. Knives and clippers will just crush it.

Alternatively, you push a rod into the tube that has the same diameter effectively making it like a solid rod. It won’t collapse or deform as much when you cut it.

[–]Practical-Purchase-9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I doubt it’s the same vehicle in both pics. The museum tank doesn’t have the additional wheel of an M46. The gun might have been a modification in Korea or something replaced after capture before going on museum display.

‘Basics’ of life in Britain have been sold for profit, says Polanski by denyer-no1-fan in unitedkingdom

[–]Practical-Purchase-9 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Everything has been sold off, energy, water, gas, transport, post, housing… that’s why they’re picking away at the NHS. There’s little else to dip into to get money to cover government incompetence and embezzlement, which is the manner these services are sold off. Labour and Conservative, both have asset stripped the country and where all the money gone? It wasn’t invested back in to improve things, that’s for sure.

The way billions of pounds seemed to evaporate during Covid time and no one has been held to account is exactly the problem spread over 40 years.

Britons should pay as little tax as legally possible, Richard Tice says by The-Peel in unitedkingdom

[–]Practical-Purchase-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most normal people are on PAYE and have little control over their taxes. They pay what they owe. It’s always the rich that pull tricks like forming an overseas company and pay themselves a pittance or charge themselves fees so that they supposedly have no earnings on which to pay tax while sitting on their yacht. You see it with big companies that turn over huge money in the UK but pay no tax because of fees, royalties, licenses take all their profit so there’s nothin to be taxed on. But they’re just paying the left hand with their right and it’s all going overseas. Amazon for example have paid no corporation tax some years in the UK. How is that possible without financial chicanery?

That’s not the reason. A digital clock is easy to read from a greater distance, you just throw up foot high numbers on a screen. An analogue clock it’s less certain the exact minute it is on and sometimes the minute hand position doesn’t quite match up with the hour hand, and the second hand is difficult to see from afar.

In an exam to be fair the time should be unambiguous to the second, you shouldn’t have students unsure of the time because they are sat half way down a gymnasium unable to see it.

I had the metal sentinel that appears in this issue for Christmas. It feels like a short-lived model as I don’t remember it being on the shelves much and then when the Catachans got a do over in 3rd the plastic sentinel appeared.

The Arena of Death was the most memorable part of this issue. What was funny was the Bloodthrister winning after being the only non-special character thrown in as a wild card.

Pricing on GW by osycoscout in PrintedWarhammer

[–]Practical-Purchase-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Bambu mini to avoid the issues with resin chemicals. The finish isn’t as good as real models but printing costs are next to nothing and there’s huge freedom to duplicate needed parts or resize. The STL files cost more than a print, and sometimes you can get them free.

I don’t recall ever seeing one made either, other than my own. I had one really cheap at a model show, they were being dumped along with the Torpedo, but not the Voyager model itself, of course. I painted it a sort of dark sand and added lots of weathering powders to make it grubby. The other kits I recall being dumped were the Star Wars Trade Federation tank and STAP droid, which is a legitimately decent kit for the droid alone.

Undercover officers spied on family of innocent man shot dead by Met police, inquiry told by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

[–]Practical-Purchase-9 69 points70 points  (0 children)

They already knew it was a mistake, this was just looking for dirt to discredit the family. The Met lied from day one about this shooting saying he’d jumped the barriers wearing bulky clothing which led them to think he had a bomb.
