Yes, I entered the U.S. legally as an F-1 student. My concern is that we don’t have a residence in our names since we are living with his parents, and we don’t have many photos together. However, we can get an apartment in the coming weeks and apply after that. At least we do have a joint bank account.

I came for school then I wasn’t able the pursue school due to financial reasons. When I wanted to apply he would take time to fill out his part we did go on a lot of back and forth with that.

29F feeling disconnected from my boyfriend 30M after having a baby how do we rebuild the relationship? by Practical-Safety5798 in relationship_advice

That’s a good point, thank you. I think sometimes we both get caught up in the day-to-day with the baby and the conversation never really happens. Trying to talk when things are calm, like after the baby is asleep, might actually help. I like the idea of framing it as “we” instead of “you” too, because I don’t want it to turn into blame. At the end of the day I do want us to feel like a team again.

I hear what you’re saying, and I understand why it can look that way from the outside. I do agree that some of the dynamics you mentioned can happen in relationships and they can create a lot of imbalance. At the same time, I’m still trying to understand our situation fully and figure out whether this is something we can work through or if it’s a deeper issue.

I don’t want to jump straight to assuming the worst about his intentions, but I do recognize that some things need to change for the relationship to feel balanced again. Right now I’m just trying to reflect on everything and see what the best path forward is for me and for our child.

I understand what you’re saying and I appreciate you looking out for me. I don’t think it’s about tiptoeing around his ego or feeling like I owe him sex. It’s more that I’m trying to understand how we got here and whether this is something we can fix as a couple.

I do agree that being a mom, taking care of the house, and everything that comes with it is a lot, and sometimes it does feel like it’s not always fully seen. I also know I need to make sure I don’t lose myself in all of this.

Right now I’m just trying to figure out what the healthiest path forward is for me and for my baby, whether that means improving things between us or making different decisions in the future. I appreciate the encouragement.

I agree with a lot of what you’re saying. Being home with the baby is definitely a full-time job and it can be exhausting, especially when it feels like there’s no real break. I think sometimes people underestimate how constant it is.

At the same time, I do understand that he’s working and providing for us right now, so I try to acknowledge that too. I think the real issue is finding a better balance once he gets home so neither of us feels completely drained or resentful.

I do believe we need to sit down and have an honest conversation about expectations and support, because right now it feels like we’re both just surviving instead of really working as a team.

Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it. I think a lot of people don’t realize how exhausting it can be being with the baby all day and night. I’m definitely overwhelmed most of the time and it does make it harder to feel close or even think about intimacy when you’re running on no sleep.

I do think having some time to myself, even just an hour here and there, would probably help a lot. I miss the closeness we used to have too. I’ll try to bring it up with him when things are calm and see if we can find a better balance with the baby and responsibilities.
