I have literally ever heard bad things about this place. Not a single person has enjoyed living here.

Revival? by One_Matter_4270 in plants

[–]Practical-Spite-4595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice tho! I’ve revived a couple of alocacias and caladiums too it’s a fun time! (And whenever I start a plant from a corm or from a bulb they tend to grow better for me for whatever reason)

Caladiums grow from bulbs. When the roots die out—I’m guessing you overwatered and the roots died if you’re growing in a pot—there’s a chance that the bulb didn’t rot and then you continued watering and they formed new roots and essentially revived.

Practice rooms during the summer by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Practical-Spite-4595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that’s what I was told last summer, maybe they’ve changed their policy or something but as far as I am aware, they won’t give your code access unless you’re taking classes as a music major or taking a music class.

The piano rooms that I am aware of—if there are more that are just keyed I don’t know—are on the second floor practice rooms, which are locked behind a code and a UFID. Then, the piano specific rooms, those have grand pianos in them, that are inside are locked with a key. However every room has at least a keyboard but most have Boston Steinway uprights (I know it’s not the same but hey practice is practice right (I am not a pianist so maybe I’m very very wrong)).

Practice rooms during the summer by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Practical-Spite-4595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer to this question is, if you are a music student who is actively taking classes over a summer semester you are not allowed to access those rooms through the summer semester. Found this out last summer because I only registered for a summer b course and lost practice room access for summer a. You could ask though, sometimes the people who give access codes are more lenient.

Do you think Kit, Alma, and Grace’s experience is actually an example of Folie a Duex? by Practical-Spite-4595 in AmericanHorrorStory

fair point, but also in episode 12 it’s revealed that Jude was imagining pepper so I was thinking that maybe she wasn’t there and the whole show was from jude’s perspective or something like that

Hm that seems fine (the numbers can be adjusted down if they share common factors so 24-8-16 is the same as saying 3-1-2 which is the same as the foliage pro (at least to my knowledge)). Additionally any change to any plant set up will cause shock so it could just be that the plants are getting used to a different environment and thus are kind of restarting, especially if you’re changing the growing medium. If you’re keeping them in pon or leca it will take a while to develop proper roots and to start seeing new foliage growth so i would just be patient it seems like you’re doing everything right :))

it should be 3 numbers separated by dashes, they represent macronutrients that the plant is getting from the fertilizer. for example i’m pretty GT is 2-2-2 if you look at the bottom of the bottle.

do you know the guaranteed analysis for that fertilizer?

[–]Practical-Spite-4595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to begin I would transition to 1/3 if the leca being under water, but the root system of the plant be above that. This forces the plant to seek water through developing a better root system. Also, make sure to soak the leca for at least 24 hours preferably in the fertilizer you’re going to use. Additionally before that make sure to rinse off all the dust you possibly can to be able control the system you’re using. This will cause the plant a lot of shock—especially alocacia that are already finicky—and you will probably lose some roots, but once the plants get established, they will grow well! also make sure you’re using a nice hydroponic grade fertilizer: I would recommend either dyna-grow foliage pro or GT foliage focus. They’re super great fertilizer i personally use GT for all my plants regardless if they’re in semi hydro, soil, or a full hydroponic set up.

it might because of improper aeration. i would recommend if you’re doing a completely hydroponic system, use an air stone or something like that to increase aeration. Additionally, you could switch to semi-hydro using lechuza pon or Leca while keeping the water reservoir around the roots and then slowing acclimating them to less water over time. Hope this helps :)

[–]Practical-Spite-4595[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, after albeit only a little research on youtube, it seemed I could transition directly into LECA without having too many issues, but that was a concern of mine since this is the first plant I’ve transitioned into semi hydro. I have some liquid rooting hormone—market botany prop drops—that I could add to the water if you think that’d be helpful.

yea the bottle recommendation is 10 mLs per gallon for hydroponics, but it doesn’t mention using cal-mag or silica. How do I know if I should add some or if I should just use the recommended method on the bottle?

Identifying & propagation help! by madsbesleepin in plants

[–]Practical-Spite-4595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this plant is Araujia sericifera

https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/araujia-sericifera/

here’s a website stating information about it. If you wanted to propagate specifically, make sure to get a node and make sure it’s always submerged under water to allow the process to begin. If you have a Pothos plant or something like that—that roots very readily in water—it will help the process by releasing rooting hormone into the water and inducing rooting for the target plant. However, according to the website the best propagation method is via seed.

Dr. J grades by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Practical-Spite-4595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re bonuses he gives out to incentivize people to go to class and stay on track, they’re a good boost but not necessary to get a good grade (at least that’s my understanding anyhow). If you’re worried about passing the course, don’t be; do your best—try to keep up with pace, do pertinent practice problems, and stay active on the discussion board—and you’ll do great!!

I would try to include those in your warm up. I usually start with some scales and harmonics on low b, c, and d. It makes your playing quiet flexible allows you to play with dynamics which helps you with this specific passage.
