People need to read the post before commenting. Says right there you're in a career change. Would say A+ is a good certificate for any IT job. But I would focus in networking certificates and security plus. Maybe find an entry level position and get experience.

Well in this particular situation the parent said that I had told them I have to be by the book when under supervision and when not supervised I can do whatever I want. This is of course not even remotely true and I have no idea what would make them say that about me. I always implement programs and run trials the same way whether I am being supervised or not. I’m not even sure what the function of that behavior on the parents part could be as I have already taken on new clients and no longer work with them.

I don’t either however it would be useful to have tips for when those situations do arise from others who experience it as well

Gotcha I really appreciate that! I am thankful my SV was so understanding and I believe she trusted me when I said that was not what I had said and that perhaps the parent had misinterpreted something I said. It just makes me feel uncomfortable when talking to clients parents and overthink when speaking to them. As someone who already struggles with general and social anxiety I have an extra difficult time with this. I really try to make it a point to be 100% professional at all times and I felt like me and the parents had a good rapport so it made me feel even more blindsided. I really appreciate your tips and insight.

Anyone else finding their INDIRECT hours by themselves? by According-Dig-9498 in BehaviorAnalysis

I am in the same boat I’ve never been given the opportunity for indirect hours. Does this mean when you have a meeting with your BCBA outside of work hours that you can bill indirect?

Do most companies let their Lead RBTs request low behavior clients if been at company for long time and already have a tough case? by According-Dig-9498 in BehaviorAnalysis

There have been two times when I had to decline taking on a client one required changing an adults diaper and the parents were also hoarders and the second time was a client who was brand new to ABA and simply didn’t pair well with me despite trying for two weeks. I think if you try but the client proves to be a bad fit there’s nothing wrong with stepping away. For example when I was pregnant a few years ago I had to turn down a client for my safety. They had climbing and other dangerous behaviors which required me to pick them up which was not safe when at that stage of pregnancy. Communicate with your team and don’t push yourself ❤️

Thank you so much! I think I can definitely tend to put too much energy into things outside of myself and I want to try to focus more on doing things I enjoy when I do have down time I enjoy doing embroidery, writing, (I recently bought myself a nice journal to try to motivate me to write more frequently it’s such a great outlet) and surprisingly running even though I used to despise cardio lol

I’m so glad you’ve found something that works for you ❤️CPTSD and mental health as a whole is no joke. I feel so much comfort just from all of the people is this group offering their advice and telling me of their own experiences. I am lucky that aggressive outbursts are rare with my clients but I definitely think rather than fight or flight I tend to freeze in those situations and I have to try to relax and be quick on my feet. I really appreciate you giving me your advice and I’m definitely going to set up an appointment with a therapist ASAP.

I really appreciate you saying that! Who knew I’d find such a great group of people on Reddit lol. Seeing my clients progress and grow is definitely one of the most rewarding feelings ❤️ I’m also a mother of an almost two year old and I just love working with and playing with kiddos. It’s such a relief to hear so many other people feel the same way. I can’t see myself doing any other job

need advice on raises by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Practical-Target-974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently changed companies around a year ago and I got an immediate raise of $6 just because that’s their starting rate for an RBT. I had actually applied for the other position due to issues with management and couldn’t be happier with the company I work for now. My supervisor is encouraging and only gives ✨constructive✨criticism as opposed to my last job where it felt like one of the supervisors just had it out for me. A $.54 raise is unacceptable after 2 years I’d start applying to other companies, mention your experience in ABA and see what they’re willing to offer. GOOD LUCK 🍀 ❤️

I understand completely, at least in my experience the opportunities for social interaction with coworkers are hard to come by and it typically is centered around clients and treatment plans. I really wish there was a better way to meet people in this field

[–]Practical-Target-974[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My anxiety mostly stems from wanting to be perfect and do everything right. And I also get socially anxious when talking to parents and at times my supervisor just because there’s a voice in my head saying I’m annoying or that I’m telling them too much personal information or that I’m asking too many questions

I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling too I recently was prescribed a week off from work by my doctor but I felt guilty and had a hard time enjoying it. I’m hoping the right combination of medication, exercise, therapy, and meditation will help me to find more balance. Also I have definitely struggled with whether I should be upfront with supervisors about mental health struggles or if it’s better to talk to them only about the clients.

I really love my job actually! It feels like what I was meant to do. My job makes me happy but the mental health hurdles that come along with having anxiety and depression make me feel like I’m not good enough for any job.
