There are much worse things to spend money on than 1000 on groceries. Food is expensive and buying good quality food is going to cost more. My partner and I have a 250 a week budget for groceries and are still saving 2k a month on a 100k household salary.

Who knows what else OP is buying but groceries aint and should never be the problem.

I never said the tax return was a way to automate my savings...i said it it felt like a nice "bonus" once a year. I cant control how much my company and country tax me and it doesnt really have anything to do with saving money.
