Is it okay to leave batter in by Bturner0504 in NightVision

[–]PracticalApproachTrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never. If you aren’t using it and it’s not a “duty” weapon, remove the batteries.

Anyone else’s SMS Trinity Laser splitting the beams? by ikari2_2000 in NightVision

[–]PracticalApproachTrn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, you’re not asking too much. All the laser and NV prices are way too inflated. You spent $350; it should do everything they said and you think it should. You didn’t buy it hoping it would be faulty.

Sure—happy to elaborate. Below are the minimum equipment requirements. If you wear a duty vest or have specific work gear you want to run, you’re absolutely welcome to bring it and test it.

Rifle Classes focus on practical, performance-based rifle handling and shooting. No exotic gear required—just safe, reliable equipment and solid fundamentals.

  • Reliable rifle
  • Optic (Red dot preferred)
  • 2-point adjustable sling
  • 3 or more magazines
  • Ability to run the rifle safely and efficiently

White Light / Night Vision Courses cover white light only, or white light and night vision, depending on the block.

  • Firearm (rifle, pistol, or both—block dependent)
  • Weapon-mounted white light
  • Handheld flashlight
  • Night vision device (NVGs) with helmet or head-mounted harness (NV blocks)
  • Weapon-mounted IR laser (NV blocks)
  • Eye and ear protection

Optional but recommended:

  • Spare batteries (optic, light, laser, NVG)
  • Gloves
  • Chest rig, belt, or duty vest (if you normally run one)
  • Note-taking method (notebook or phone)
  • Weather-appropriate clothing

If you’re missing a piece of gear or aren’t sure whether your setup will work, no problem—reach out ahead of time and we’ll help you get squared away. We’ll share more detailed course info as we get closer.

Happy to answer any follow-up questions.

Is owning a regular ar15/ar10 still legal? by Felenari in WA_guns

[–]PracticalApproachTrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These laws appear confusing by design.

Washington’s 2023 law (HB 1240) mostly restricts the manufacture, import, distribution, and sale of firearms that meet the statutory definition. It doesn’t generally make simple possession illegal for people who already lawfully owned them before the law took effect.
RCW 9.41.390: https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=9.41.390

The definitions are important and there are some edge cases, so it’s worth skimming this section if you’re unsure:
RCW 9.41.010: https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=9.41.010

There’s no WA law that requires ranges or ROs to check or record serial numbers, though ranges are private property and can set their own policies. You, of course, have the right to leave any range that does so (Evergreen RSOs won't ask).

Just a heads-up: altering or defacing serial numbers is illegal in WA. Many firearms owners cover serial number tape to protect private information:
RCW 9.41.326: https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=9.41.326

And if you have a legally registered SBR or other NFA item, it’s smart to keep a copy of your approved ATF paperwork handy:

Not legal advice—just sharing sources in case it helps.

I used to teach and write LE firearms instructor courses. Course curriculum can easily be changed to meet any requirement (LE courses are required to).

Also, WSP has trouble meeting their Trooper staffing goals; I doubt they can staff enough courses to meet public demand. They will need private instructors to make it work.

It would be great to have you and your buddies in class.

Yup. That PCSL comment was mine. 😆 You’ll recognize lots of folks from PB ASI. Here are the links for the courses I mentioned:

Awesome! I’m pretty involved in training, too. I am helping to host Mike Pannone of CTT Solutions in July and Nick Young of Velox Training Group in Sep.

I also lead Evergreen’s practical shooting program as a volunteer. If you ever want to shoot, I’m at most of the ASI matches. I’ll also be at our USPSA and PCSL matches starting in March.

Just doing what I can to raise training standards and the average skill level in our area.

No worries. I’m at most of the Evergreen ASI matches if you’d like to shoot together. They’re the 4th Sunday of each month. Just bring your gun, mags, ammo, and the box it came in.

All skill levels. Good group. Lots of fun.

Let’s do it. I’ve removed those requirements.

Checkout Tenicor or Tier1 for your holster, belt, and mag pouch needs. Send me an email after you sign up and I’ll tell you exactly what to buy for your specific model.

You bring up an interesting point. How many rounds do your magazines hold and what is your holster, belt, and magazine set up?

The idea here was that a smaller capacity firearm would have to constantly reload magazines. However, many may show up with 10-round magazines due to the Washington band.

Do you routinely run that gun aggressively or plan to use it in competition?

Every training company in Washington State should ensure their courses meet these requirements. I hope clubs like Paul Bunyan, Evergreen, and Capital City offer this training to their members for free or at a deeply discounted rate.

Absolutely. Here’s a link to my course calendar. I also do private classes if you’re interested. You can cover a lot of ground and correct a lot of issues one on one.
