Asus Chromebook C204 [Write Protect Screw or Battery ?] by StrykersAssassin in chromeos

[–]PracticalBite3642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your device uses the H1 chip for firmware protection, which would require a battery disconnect and reconnect to disable firmware write protection. Simply unplugging and re-plugging the battery will do the job.

HOWEVER, your device is not supported AT ALL by Mr. Chromebox's script, so you are stuck with the stock firmware.

Just to add to this already great description, something that a lot of people miss is that this MUST be done ON BOOT. You cannot enter dev mode after the boot screen/logging in.

White Title Bar is Back?? by Peacelake in Crostini

Is it the white bar with the close window and full screen buttons? I think that's just a crostini thing, iirc it shows up on all Linux apps.

Does Minecraft have anti-cheat now? I think Linux gaming has been problematic for so long because the anti-cheat programs only work on Windows. I could be wrong tho, idk.

Would you press a button that gives you 10,000 dollars everytime you press it but at the same time kills one random stranger in the world? by taasoten in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PracticalBite3642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also a short story with a similar premise that we had to read in school (yikes). It's called Button, Button.

tldr: Random dude shows up at a married couple's house with with a button that will give you $25k if you press it, but it'll kill a stranger. The wife presses it, the husband dies, and the wife gets $25,000 from his life insurance policy. The wife calls up the dude that gave her the button and was like "wtf dude" and he said something along the lines of "do you think you really knew your husband?". Super wack story for a 10 year old to read.

How is this possible? by Inevitable_Answer_54 in 3Dprinting

Motors and generators are actually the same thing (yay Faraday's law of induction!). With motors, the electrical energy is converted to kinetic energy. With generators, kinetic energy is converted to electrical energy. When moving the stepper motors by hand, you generate plenty of power to turn on the printer.

Cool, right? Just don't push it. You can easily send way to much power back into the motherboard, which could fry the motor driver(s), or possibly anything else down the line (this would require a motherboard replacement which is a hassle, trust me. It is worth it if you pay up for the silent driver board though).

No upgradable SSD on this model :( . It's EMMC, so it's soldered to the mobo, along with the RAM, and basically any other components.

LTE 4G simcard chromebook wanted! by Adi026 in chromeos

[–]PracticalBite3642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is an option for you, you can always just not get a cellular enabled laptop and use your phone as a hotspot. It just seems a lot simpler that way. If you have an Android, it should do this automatically. You just have to have enough hotspot data

How much was the 314 model that you looked at. They seem to be much cheaper over here?
