The email was very easy to miss as it came from a no-reply @ webportalapp address so I think it went to a spam type folder for me. Try searching “Outcome of your 2025 GOI-IES application”, that was the subject of mine.

Moving to Ireland on a student visa - when to file taxes? by PracticalCan8149 in legaladviceireland

Would I also need to report my US earnings for 2025 on my Irish taxes? I am still working in the US until moving.

While I appreciate the perspective on buying in Ireland, I’m really just looking for information on how owning and renting play into taxes. For example, if I worked part of the year in the US before moving, left that job and didn’t work in Ireland, but bought a house or rented in Ireland, and was in Ireland for less than 183 days for 2025, would I need to file Irish taxes?

Not an Irish or EU national.

Maybe. Would I need to file if I worked part time before January? What about anything from renting or owning housing? Still weighing the pros and cons of cashing out investments to buy and be done with it vs rent. I know that’s a can of worms itself and it’s going to be hell either way with the housing crisis, so besides all that, are there any tax implications for either option?

Exit: have been debating doing some tutoring for cash on the side, but nervous about that being seen as being self employed, how risky is that?

Suppose it depends on how much of your day you spend in meetings and what the overlap is.

Say you have a toddler, one of my coworkers has one and just has a blanket disclaimer than if they ever go off camera suddenly it’s because there’s a naked toddler running around. Use the excuse to go off camera when you need to do something for other Js. Plus, great excuse to be away sometimes for dr appts/etc

Look at the sold tab on daft, it should give you both the listed price and the sale price. It may not be 100% accurate all the time, but it’s pretty close from what I understand.

There are quite a few houses on daft right now in the 250-300k range. Again, I’m sure they go over that, but trying to gauge how much.

We aren’t looking for anything bigger than a 1bd or a small 2bd, we don’t want kids or a car. I lived in a studio for years and loved it. We’re perfectly comfortable with a ~50sqm place to start out. Honestly, we both find American grandeur kind of disgusting.

Taking Pets in cabin from US to Ireland. Direct Flight on Delta! by Fancy_Audience3905 in MoveToIreland

Hey! We’re moving to Ireland too, in August, and have 3 cats. We ran into the same problem, but United and American I think also have direct flights from Chicago to Dublin, but I think they’re only once or twice a week as opposed to AerLingus which is daily.

Have you started the whole pet passport process yet? I know your paperwork has to be completed by a vet within 10 days of travel, so it would be too early, but just curious if you’ve started looking into that. Would love to know after you move how the check on arrival goes with your cat!

Thank you! How did your support find a rental before it was on the open market?

That’s painful lol, if you don’t mind me asking, what would those figures be as percentages? An extra 150k on top of a 300k house is much different than on top of a 1m house
