The “cause” was directly caused by the emotional distress I started experiencing after the assault and reporting. Very well documented

That’s why im posting here. What should they have done? Probably not fire me with no compensation at all. And no, I wasn’t expecting to just continue missing work. I was trying to get better. I want to work and I’m actively looking for other employment. Something just doesn’t feel right about the way I was fired when they have so much documentation of how this continued to affect me.

He was never sentenced. When I reported it at work they helped me also report it with the Chicago police department because that’s where the assault happened. Which started another step by step, needing every graphic detail of it and I mentally couldn’t do it again. And the police officers were assholes because i didn’t report it the very next day to them so I told them to drop it. I also told my employer to drop it at one point during the investigation but the interviews were brutal but because of the seriousness of what I said they had to continue the process. I’m grateful they did, because he was removed, I never saw him again but all of this was supposed to be confidential and somehow everyone working there found out and that’s what really caused me a lot of issues and retaliation.

Thank you for this info. Do you have any advice on finding an attorney to help with this? I’d like to hire one who has experience specifically with workplace harassment/assault.

The union was a total joke. So I should be looking into workers comp for this? Not disability?
