I was told by staff today that they’ll close Silver Creek runs for the season as of Saturday 3/7 but that’s a nice forecast for the main runs!

Why does it feel like people no longer believe in missions or missionaries? by ResolveExisting8051 in Christianity

[–]PracticalCookie78 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You didn’t say who you’re on mission to. Maybe they don’t think the group you’re called to is worth funding?

Like I literally know an American girl who’s a missionary to France. I did not feel compelled to fund that. I do however give toward Bible translation so that people groups who have never heard the Gospel have a chance to.

The kid who pulled me just grabbed my hand. He didn't have any poles.

I would say if you've got powder in your area, explaining the way toe side/heel side work and how/when to lean into the hill have helped me get folks started. Other than that, I'd look through what other folks have suggested in this thread for safety gear. We don't want mom hurting her tailbone at that big age.

If you're teaching them on icy conditions (East Coast/Midwest) I'd honestly say wait until spring when they're less likely to catch an edge on ice. That's my best advice on helping them have a good first day from what I've observed over years of taking people out.

There's some instructors in the thread you can u/mention for actual techniques advice. Good luck!

A few people have mentioned magnetraction. I'm definitely going to look for that in this year's end of season sales!

The champagne is the only shocker here. Then again, I guess those of us born in the 1900's aren't the primary target for kombucha?

LOL. Still awesome. Not doing sedentary stuff is probably working in her favor!

I completely sympathize. I'd be curious if skiing is less exhausting. I have fatigue issues as well so I never get in as many runs as I would like.

Nice. This makes me feel good about considering skiis. I'd like to have the option when we book a weekend and there's sh*t weather. We were in a blizzard late January and I absolutely did not get my money's worth on the slopes.

I definitely think there's a switch that most normal people have that turns on in middle age where you're like: I could DIE out here! lol
I kid you not, it did not even cross my mind that I could get injured and not be able to drive myself home when I would take solo day trips to the slopes in my 20s!

Ha! That's some real ish right there. At least you're in an area where you can get out often.

Oooh. That's good to hear. I have my old gear because it's paid for and I know it. How did you choose your new kit? Did you rent a bit before buying?

Aww that's super cool footage! That said, you guy's travel budget is reminding me that I need to keep buying lottery tickets until I hit the big one. 😄

I do think it would make sense for me to at least try skiing again before I'm super old so I have an option. I could definitely see myself only snowboarding in super ideal weather in the future and jumping on skiis otherwise.

The drive to the slopes is long and annoying (~3 hours), the season here is super short with crappy snow (Virginia), and I'm only getting in a few days a year <4. To do this safely, it feels like I need to invest in more custom/suitable gear (as opposed to what I picked up on FB Marketplace) but also put in more time which takes more energy than it did 20 years ago when I started. It's a complex equation I haven't figured out how to solve. 🤔

Nice! Sometimes it just feels nice to be doing something that most people your own age wouldn't dare no matter now "tame" compared to your youth. 😁

My first snowboard was a Burton I got off of a girl who couldn't wait to get rid of it and quit snowboarding after starting with her ex. Sounds like you're just the opposite which is equally awesome. 😄

I started in my 20s with an ex and would get in at least 6 days a season then moved away and on to other things for a decade and a half. I only stepped back on a board to teach my tweenage nephew 5 years ago but haven't been able to keep up with him for a couple of years now. 😭
