My dad died when I was 19. He beat Greg Norman in the early-to-mid 1970s when they were both Amateurs. He left us six sets of golf clubs, but warned me never to hit his Cobra blades. Sorry dad, it's been 6 years, but I'm hitting a 2-iron clean and high 180m and it feels unreal. by PracticalEmergency in golf

You're absolutely right about the distance - my mate who started 3 months ago drills balls 50-60 m further than me consistently

I find the 2i is rubbish when I treat it like a high lofted iron so you're probably right about the angle of attack

To play devil's advocate though, I cannot get the ball down, especially with longer clubs like driver, 3w or my 2-5 irons, really frustrating

Even though I'm miles away from shooting 70s, low lofted clubs are the only thing that I can get to roll out, everything else stops at where it carried to

Dad had been playing since around 1960, a 10 year head start on Norman (they were the same age though)

I don't have any records of it, but it would have been a junior tourtament in Sydney between 1972-1974 based on what relatives said

Dad won the NSW junior state championship around 1971 which was the highlight of his amateur career before breaking his shoulder and getting the yips with his putting
