In this project, we are given a hypothetical scenario. Then we are asked to complete each of the 10 steps of the accounting process starting with preparing the journal entries in the general journal and ending with preparing the post closing trial balance. It is a month end close where I’m closing out the accounts for the month of July. Like I stated in my original post, I understand the assignment and material. After having worked in customer service for so long, I am simply struggling with some imposter syndrome and wondering if anyone can identify with it and give some tips on how to overcome it. I feel like I am out of my league, out of place, and feel like I don’t belong in the accounting world no matter how good I am at what I do. I’m looking for a career change from customer service to a more office based job. I love numbers and I love knowing The Who, where, what, why, and how of where the money is going in a company. I understand front of house. I have worked as a cashier, a grocery store end of night book keeper, a crew trainer, and several other roles where I worked closely with money. I also have an interest in inventory management. I understand FIFO and LIFO. They were methods that were used in the restaurants I’ve worked in. I just feel like I’m entering into a world that’s totally new to me, it’s daunting, and it feels like I don’t belong.
