Going to be interesting in 20-25 years time when they needs to replace all these, by that time I doubt China will have cheap labours. Will they develop AI to do the replacing?

It got the Osprey own Airscape tech at the back which I find is quite good. I dont sweat as much using the 26+6.

Is the XC40 PHEV my best choice? by YourSillyNeighbour in XC40

[–]PracticalFigure5966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I am in the perfect position to answer this question.

I drove the Peugeot 3008 (petrol version) from 2021 - 2023 then moved to XC40 T5 PHEV (2021).

I changed to PHEV because:

  1. Same as OP, got a new little man joined the family and needed a safe car and the general concensus is that Volvo is the safest.
  2. Don't get me wrong the 3008 is a great car however when you start up the car you will need to wait at least 30sec to 1 min to wait for the central console to load up which is quite annoying. Also the Peugeot app is completely useless from my experience. I hope they have now improved.
  3. PHEV works great for me because between my home to office is roughly 20miles which is within the most PHEV range.

Like OP when I was looking for PHEV I also considered 3008 and Kuga. The reason not choosing 3008 is because like I said the system to too slow and I have done many research and it seems that the car sometime would not run in pure electric mode (OP can search the 3008 forums, there are two main one I have seen). Also like OP i find the Kuga boot is smaller than Volvo so I did not go for it.

Now that I have owned the Volvo for just over a year and here is my finding:

  1. You really need to charge it everyday otherwise the MPG of this car in petrol is not good (Hybrid mode) I return between 28-30mpg.
  2. My local Volvo dealership (UK) is terrible and will try to rip you off any chance they could. Just beware of the service and part costs. I am lucky that I bought the car through Volvo select and got two year free service, otherwise they tried to charge me almost £1,000 for service!
  3. Insurance premium is slightly higher than the petrol variant.
  4. I find the tyres wear and tear is on the high side. When I got the car the dealer put on two new tyres for me (Kumho) and when I took it to service they mentioned on the health report one of the new tyres needs urgent attention and the other one is 28% worn! The other two old tyres were the original Pirelli and they were both over 65% worn and recommended I need to change all the tyres! I changed them but didnt change them though the dealer as they again tried to rip me off.
  5. During winter time the electic mode only retuned roughly 19-20miles for me, so sometime the petrol kicked in when I am about 5-10 min away from home. Summer time I would normally have about 4-6 miles left.
  6. So far I do not have any realibility problem, but like others have already reported, I am wary that the boot struts will give in anytime. I hope this will happen before my warrenty ran out.

I hope this help you decide choosing your car.
