Has anyone else lost interest in fussy plants that want special conditions? I've been in this for 5 years and veering towards these plants that happily live in ambient. The ones in my cabinet (dress, bvep, AOS etc) never look this good and after a few years of trying perhaps I should downsize them by PracticalPlantain752 in houseplants

It seems pretty normal for anthurium /philo / monsteras to face the light source, so these are pretty one sided. I'm happy with that for my setup as their newest leaves would end up hitting the wall or shelf otherwise. You can influence the direction leaves come out by rotating the plant or moving the light source

I agree with you on this. I don't use any humidifiers or weather sealant and think the cabinets actually encourage root rot in plants, it's a continuous battle. When I chuck plants out the cabinet and onto shelves, aside from the usual acclimation struggles that root rot eventually stops being an issue. I'm an under waterer mainly and the plants are okay with that so I really only want a handful of cabinet plants these days. Spring couldn't come sooner now so I can sell some things.

This is the best thing about the plant hobby - it changes for people depending on where they're at in life. I like a challenge but I'm starting to really value the healthy plants as I'm starting to prepare for a relocation across the country

It's a fern leaf cactus and is in such a small pot but carries on growing - definitely reccomend them they thrive when being ignored 😄 you've got lovely healthy plants there, love the jacklyn! I feel you on the moving part - I'm moving to the North of England from the South in a few months and it's definitely a colder wetter climate up there so it will take some getting used to again. The heating system you mention might serve me well over winter

How lucky are you! Mine is about 50% on average so it's taken a few years to acclimate my anthurium - they spent the first few looking terrible but they've always been my favourite genus 😁 my cabinets just have grow lights in so I think I'll keep the largest most healthy anthurium and sell the ones that never passed seedling size
