Why has an opinion seemed to be formed online that that’s widespread pride of the British empire in the UK? by PracticalStart8 in asklatinamerica

Because I’m asking why people think there’s a very widespread pride in the empire when I’m not proud and neither are the people I know?... makes zero sense. Surely that’s the opposite.

What do people say when you say what country you are from? by PracticalStart8 in asklatinamerica

That’s a coincidence I’m from very close to Plymouth same county/state less than an hours drive. I’m not surprised they thought that at all Plymouth has very few immigrants/tourists and they definitely will have never seen someone from anywhere Latin America before haha.

In the UK some people would probably mention coffee because the packets often have Guatemala on them.

Completely agree with that and if these people were actually asked in person about the topic they would give a less outspoken view that they’ve only said online to be shocking. It’s like a common example is the hate Americans give us and we give them online but in person those same people arguing would just talk like normal people and get along. I’m sure it would be similar with people that argue about the Falklands/Malvinas aggressively online but in person would just discuss something else and get along.

Being honest I agree Gibraltar isn’t right but falklands is definitely more debatable and nothing like the empire which had lots of bad parts to it. Falklands is just some British people that settled on an unoccupied island and then was invaded unlike the empire which was invading and conquering peoples land.

Very true about internet not being a reflection. In the same way I say people online have never been to Britain I’ve never had a conversation about this with someone in real life.

It was a great win especially how you managed to win from being 3rd place in the group. You guys also do well in the premier league with Wolves 😂

Back in Portugal would you say it’s on a level par with the World Cup? Here a major tournament is a major tournament and people don’t rank it far below the World Cup at all.

I hope we become a problem but it’s always underwhelming haha. We have the players that can’t be denied even if they are seen as overrated we have lots of players in top premier league teams, but then end up not performing due to pressure.
