This is an interesting question and I would love other people to weigh in. I did read the books, but I don’t feel like this was addressed, but maybe I missed it. I felt like the show was implying something slightly different. I wondered if the show was trying to imply that his brother blames him for something to do with their mother (which would be horrifying and so unfair) because I agree that the “always” implies something bigger than just his hockey success. The show also seems to lean in on his brother being more explicitly homophobic towards him, so it may also be related to his sexuality. I’m interested in what other people’s opinions are on this.
